Bryan Kohberger pleads guilty to Idaho student murders

Even if he was found guilty the appeals process for a death penalty seems to go on and on. The family likes the idea of death but if that is 20 years down the road and they went to court every few / five years etc. This plea with no appeal and life sentences seems like a good alternative.

Even if the families wished for a court case so he’d have the death penalty, I think after sitting in court listening to gruesome details they’d wished they didn’t have to relive that hell again.

It’d not be surprising to read of his demise within the system in the next couple of years.

In some locals, the Prosecutor (or D.A.) will speak with the families about allowing the defendant to plead guilty in exchange for a life, no appeal, no parole sentence. They are not bound by the family’s wishes, but they do take them into consideration before handing out a plea deal. I have seen this go down on more than one occasion.
