The Lazarus Effect: How Often Are People Almost Buried Alive?

One of the most notable cases though of being nearly buried alive is the case of Angelo Hays. In 1937, the Frenchmen was riding his motorcycle when he was involved in a crash that smashed his face into a brick wall. He was declared dead at the scene and buried two days later. However, due to insurance reasons, his body was exhumed a few days later and found to still be alive.

Hays’ accident had caused his body to slip into a comma, and needed little oxygen. After some time, Hays completely recovered and went on to tour the country in a coffin he had invented himself.

It is bizarre and nightmarish for sure. I've thought on a couple of occasions that I hope it never happens to me! She must've scared the bazoobas out of those who first encountered this "dead" woman become animated. Too bad she really died so soon afterward. Just imagine, her family experienced that trauma twice!

The little soul did finally pass then. This has to be so unsettling for her family. I hope her comprehension of what went on wasn't clear. What a sad situation.

Horror story really.

However, doctors and other professionals use certain signs to detect if life still exists. Every now and then I suppose a coma state might exist that seems like death. It is very rare - I hope!

It is fascinating how scared we are if an apparent corpse suddenly wakes up. Once we think someone is dead we get frightened of the lifeless shell. Yet that shell is what we walk about in! Our real self is soul and spiritual. Without the light of our inner self we are just dust.

We so wish a dead loved one was not gone but if they suddenly breathe again in their coffin, it is a severe shock. If I have explained at all properly.

I'm laughing about Hays going on tour with his coffin. Now there's a man who knows how to make the best of a bad day.

But not necessarily a lawyer.

Lawyer: "Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?"

Witness: "No."

Lawyer: "Did you check for blood pressure?"

Witness: "No."

Lawyer: "Did you check for breathing?"

Witness: "No."

Lawyer: "So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?"

Witness: "No."

Lawyer: "How can you be so sure, Doctor?"

Witness: "Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar."

Lawyer: "But could the patient have still been alive nevertheless?"

Witness: "Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law somewhere."
