But yet, my electric bill keeps going up.

News from where I live now. I can only guess this is one reason for our increase.
BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Florida Power and Light Company’s Palm Bay Solar Energy Center is now generating power from 284,648 solar panels capable of generating enough solar energy to power 15,000 homes annually.

The solar panels sit low to the ground and operate virtually unmanned.

The new solar energy center also serves FPL’s “SolarTogether” program – the largest community solar program in the United States. The program gives customers the option to meet all or part of their energy needs by subscribing to solar capacity from large-scale solar energy centers, like the one in Palm Bay.

Everyone, no matter where they live or whether they rent or own, can participate in the program.

FPL currently operates 37 solar energy centers across the state, with seven more currently under construction, including the FPL Discovery Solar Energy Center located at Kennedy Space Center in Brevard County.8F3A7ECE-8D8D-4C8B-A399-690B8ABAF22A.jpeg

Hope they don't run out of land, Pappy!

And water Liberty. Getting serious down here. Sad thing is, the developers are cutting down our woods to make room for housing. 20 years ago we had woods all around us and lots of cattle too. Now...houses, plus the wild life is moving into populated areas.

Do solar panels continue to operate efficiently as seagulls fly over and leave their signature? We always had a lot of seagulls around when I was growing up in Southern California, so I assume (perhaps wrongly) that Florida has that problem too. When I was in Catholic school, the nuns wore black habits and always carried umbrellas when they went outside. Seagulls are very messy in that regard. Maybe the power company has employees whose job it is to keep the panels clean. :ROFLMAO:

I would they have people that do cleaning year round Tony. Pollen is a big problem here, although I don’t see many trees there.

If you are seeing a major increase in electricity rates, there is a good chance that your rates are reflecting the costs of building these Solar farms. It costs millions to build such a solar farm, and if it only supplies enough energy to power 15,000 homes, it will certainly raise the costs to the consumers who will be relying on that power.
While the movement towards clean energy is certainly a good idea, it will cost billions, perhaps trillions, to do so....and ultimately, the consumers will bear the brunt of those costs.

I still have the option to elect electricity from "dirty" sources which I always do when asked because I know otherwise my bills will skyrocket.
