I thought I'd add this tip: when I was growing up, most people made buttercream frosting with margarine instead of butter. In the rare times I went to a nearby bakery, I noticed the frosting was somehow better. When I met a person who worked there, she let me in on their secret: instead of butter or margarine, they used Crisco! It was definitely better, so if you like this kind of frosting, try it!
