Buying new kitchen knives.

My set of kitchen knives which I've had for years, have worn out. I'm 'gobsmacked' at the cost of decent knives, but I found that Zwilling have a sale on, so I've ordered a set similar to to my old ones. I like a decent kitchen knife, even if it doesn't improve my cooking.

I've had my Hinkle set for over 25 years & it's still going strong. Hubby sharpens them regularly. I've added a few pieces over the years & really like them. Zwilling is another good brand.

Treat them well and they will work well for you!

Have you had them sharpened? My main knife needs periodic sharpening and then it is a good as new. If they are good steel, you should be able to sharpen them again. I use a table top sharpener.

I can't afford very expensive knives but the knives I have are ok for me, and I use a table top sharpener for them and replace carving knives as soon as they start to get worn

The Hoffritz knives that were gifted to us when got married (40+ years ago!) are still going strong.
I like Zwilling a lot too.

We have a set of Wusthof Dreizick (made in Germany) knives that we bought at least 30 years ago....and are still in great shape. It includes a "sharpening rod" which easily restores the edge with a few strokes.

I must have had my current knife set of Henckles 4 star for 20+ years and do sharpen them regularly, but they don't seem to be staying sharp for long. Nearly all of my cutlery and cookware is German - Henckles, WMF and Fissler. My pocket doesn't quite stretch to WÜSTHOF.

Ditto you can’t beat a good set of kitchen knives. They are worth the investment.

Husband did most of the cooking because he was such a picky eater. Around ten years ago he finally decided to buy a decent set of knives. They were eye-popping expensive but they are still going strong.

Serrat steak knives is something else that money should be spent on good quality knives.

Got my new set of J&A Henckles 'Zwilling' knives and they are almost frighteningly sharp. Unfortunately they haven't improved my cookery skills as I overcooked the duck cassoulet yesterday evening.
