It's very friendly in here, and I like that the rules are enforced. I'm from southeastern Pennsylvania and a retired CFO. Began my own business as an Amish taxi driver a little over 6 years ago. I'm enjoying reading the posts and threads here. There are so many interesting people and topics. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hi Roxie,
Welcome! I think you will like it here--there is a wide variety of subjects. Not sure what an Amish cab driver does?

Welcome, Roxie! You live in a beautiful part of the world! I hope you'll be happy here, and I believe you will. I am a current cfo and was a taxi driver in college. Do you drive horses w/ buggies, or drive Amish folks in cars? We have a cottage very near an Amish community in northern Maine. They have the BEST farmstand, but if they have a taxi service I'm unaware of it.

Thank you for the welcomes! Yes, it is a beautiful part of the country, with it's own unique charm.

Carla, an Amish Taxi is a driver with a van or car who takes Amish folks to doctors, hospitals, shopping, visiting, or driving hired help (other Amish) to work at farms or businesses. This is usually a necessity to them, because they may not own a car, but a horse and buggy are only good for about 20 miles.

Loosey, we appear to have lived a reverse life. I'd be willing to wager that your Amish do have occasion to hire a driver and van. I was aware of the group in Maine, and I think they are branching out more and more all the time, which is a good thing if you want a rural farm atmosphere preserved.

That's what I first thought, but I'm surprised they would get into a vehicle to travel that distance. I assume you trek to Lancaster. When I was a girl, I remember the horse and buggies traveling through town. The old Mennonites would drive cars but only black and they would paint all the chrome black also. Our town still had a few hitching posts which I remember playing with!
