I saw an ad for VOIP for home and away from home use. Can anyone give me more information than just a line or two? The ad was stuck in between 2 stories probably to use up space because it didn’t give any other information, but I saw this at the electronics show in Las Vegas 3 years ago and if it’s what I saw there and was able to use it myself for personal use just to experiment with and I liked it. I was able to call anyone in the world using it and the clarity was excellent, plus it guarantees no dropped calls.

VOIP—Voice Over Internet Protocol

If you have a cellphone you have probably been using VoIP for a while now.

VoIP telephony and LTE explained | Call Tracking FAQ

The importance of LTE for VoIP

VoIP technology, especially when used on mobile devices such as smartphones, benefits greatly from the stability and speed that LTE offers. Although LTE is not necessarily a requirement for using VoIP, it significantly improves the user experience, especially in areas with strong LTE network coverage. This is important because a stable and fast internet connection positively affects the quality of VoIP conversations, resulting in clearer and more reliable voice transmission.

VoIP without LTE?

It should be noted that VoIP telephony is also possible without LTE. VoIP works over various Internet connections, including Wi-Fi and older cellular technologies. However, the quality and reliability of VoIP communication may be affected with slower or less stable connections. This means that users in areas with poorer internet connectivity may experience interruptions or lower voice quality.

I used VoIP when I traveled and had no internet connection available to use my laptops. However, what I used in Vegas was different from a cellphone. It was really like a phone that sits on your desk and when you leave your office or wherever you go, you can take it along. I was also told back then, remember, this was 3 years ago, but I was told back then that I would need a hotspot to use it. I have a hotspot that I carry with me when I travel, but do I really need it?

Search for "portable wifi phone" and you'll see several on the market. They require a WiFi connection to the Internet. Most public access points require a web browser for opening a connection, so such phones can't use those.

The hotspot is needed to get an Internet connection over the cellular telephone network.

DISCLAIMER: I don't travel out of country and when away from home, simply use my cellphone.
My home phone however, uses VoIP, is stationary and plugged into my cable modem.
Service is through my ISP. My cell number and home number are different as well as different service providers.
