Canada: If you want new liver stay sober for 6 months

Well, I'm sorry but if you need a new liver due to the destruction of your own from alcoholism then yes absolutely you should have to abstain before being given a precious organ from a donor who's body part could have been used to prolong the life of someone who's body was shutting down from illness which was not self inflicted.

That's what I'm thinking. If they have a liver that will go to waste with no recipients then I would think about a transplant. But then you still have all the costs and care associated with a transplant going to them.

I can see the other view that medical care is for those who need medical care regardless of cause. In the end you have to make decisions based on the physical and monetary resources, especially when looks they would be wasted.

I understand that this woman is missing her husband, but seriously six weeks sober does not make him a teetotaller and worthy of a replacement kidney. I think she's focussing her grief on this cause which I doubt is going to go anywhere.
