AS of yesterday, Canada's population is now over 40 million people. Our population is growing at the annual rate of 2.7 percent, per year, the fastest growth rate in the G7 countries. We welcome about half a million new immigrants per year, to Canada.
Do you have a population goal? Either you personally or a national policy?

One of the things I like about Canada is your vast uncrowded places. Would not want to see that change too much.

I generally believe that quality of life is better with fewer people, that is why I don't like our immigration policies. We are of course a nation of immigrants, and I appreciate the diversity and high quality population immigration has given us. However, for the US anyway, I think enough is enough...

The Canadian Federal Government has a hazy target of 50 million in 2050. Personally I will be dead, long before then. Vast uncrowded places, make for poor places to build homes, or industries, for that matter. Our Arctic does have a lot of mineral wealth, but getting to it, and bringing it to market is very costly due to huge transportation costs, and distances. JImB.

Apparently, in winter, playing hockey isn't the only thing you Canuks do.
Sorry to bust your bubble, but Canadians as a nation have a low birth rate, which is why we are bringing in new people who are well educated, and have children that will grow up to be well rounded citizens. About 80 percent of the recent immigrants to Canada, become citizens within 7 years of arriving here. That is a good retention rate, I think. JimB.

That’s incredible!
yep, and people wonder why we have such small houses...and narrow roads... no space to build bigger... and the vast majority of us live cheek by jowl with our neighbours.. :(.. houses are even being built in Hospital grounds, Pub back yards... and school playgrounds in some places... due to the lack of space, and don't even mention our lack of infrastructure.. shortage of doctors, dentists, school places.. horrendous!

I live in Canada and have noticed a high rise in gun and other violence over the last 2 or 3 years. I am old enough to remember when we had 16 million (back in the 1950s).

And a lot of them spend their winters down here sitting under palm trees.
I wouldn't say " a lot ". Those who can afford to stay in the USA for the allotted "six months in the USA, then six months out of the USA " are unlikely to be still working. Canadians who are employed full time may go south for 2 weeks in February or March, but they will be back at work, soon after. Somebody has to look after the maple syrup factory, after all. Grin. JimB.
