Cancelling Amazon Prime

Just a minute to gripe about something. I signed up for a free introductory week of Amazon Prime Video, and then cancelled it after watching one series, "The Last of Us." But I was just charged for a monthly subscription, which was not supposed to happen since I cancelled my free trial after 3 days. Amazon doesn't make it easy. I was faced with unhelpful pages of information, so I googled and found a number for Customer Service, which is not conveniently displayed anywhere on their site. My call was handled by a bot, a rather good one, as bots go, and told it I wanted to cancel my subscription, but there was no option to tell it what had happened. It did cancel my subscription and told me I would be refunded $14.99, which I was not actually expecting, but I won't really know if this actually happened until next month. I'm counting on not having to go through this again.

Had they not refunded my monthly subscription, I would have let it go, because it was worth $15 just to watch the series, even though it was supposed to be a free trial. I usually pass on free trials, as you have to sign up and give them a credit card so they have access to your funds, and being suspicious, I don't like handing out my credit card, which makes situations like this one likely to happen.

I've noticed a few companies that make it hard to fix problems like this, although they are the exception. My gripe is that some companies don't like to return money for unwanted services. This one wasn't bad, just 20 minutes of frustration, and an eventual phone call. Most streaming services make cancelling the service very easy, just a couple of clicks and it's done, and I will sign up for them again in the future. Prime Video, probably not. I like to switch back and forth on streaming services. I only do one at a time, and then I'll rely on my personal rather huge library of films. :)

OK, not a biggy. Just needed a moment to vent a rather small frustration, and another few minutes to bitch about it on the forum. Thanks.

Once again I'm getting on the 'Cancel Prime' bandwagon, they've had their hooks in me & I've been manipulated long enough. Won't miss Prime Video, never watched it much. Going with a few quality British services, AcornTV, BritBox & Walter. Coupled with Free Roku & Netflix - I think I've got enough. With the British services I need no subtitles. I can see the same repeated oldie movies on TUBI for free, (with ads). Only exception is my obsession with 'Joe Picket' on Paramount+. Will activate it after July 30th. By then all of season 2 will be available for binge watching & then canceling.

I'm thinking about dumping Amazon Prime too. I do buy my dog's canned food etc from them on auto-delivery and other things. But the videos I want to watch are usually for rent or buy only!

I think they have Free Vee with ads. I'm long done with Netflix.

YouTube and medium grade Peacock are enough for me.

I have Amazon Prime but I don't use it much. My husband does otherwise I'd get rid of the prime part and just keep for when I can't find an item anywhere.

Amazon Prime movie selection is not what it once was. I would cancel Amazon Prime if I could continue with the savings of which I am uncertain that I save time and money from them. I will look into the cost of Amazon Prime and compare the cost of items I buy and decide from there.

I only marginally get my money‘s worth out of Amazon Prime, but if I work at it…the movies, the music, the books, and the occasional purchase…I do. What’s really hard to get out of is Sirius Xm radio. You usually wind up with someone from India who has a heavy accent and a bad phone connection… 📞🙀

Love Prime! Ron orders equipment, tools, all kinds of things for the business. We have numerous supplements, the dogs’ food and their supplements, various household items on subscription, plus we order countless other everyday items from Amazon. Their return policy and function is super convenient, and any problem I’ve had with them has been easily and quickly resolved via their chat function.

It’s a very useful facility for us.

I'm going to have to deal with Sirius next month when my reduced introductory offer expires. I've been dreading it, because the complaints about the process on the internet make it sound like a horror show. I wish I never would have taken the trial offer. The service is not bad, but not worth the full price for me, because I don't drive my car around all day listening to the radio.

So having dealt with them yourself, do you have any suggestions that will help me facilitate the process?

Really, how hard is it to bundle together an order of $35 on either Walmart.com or Amazon.com for the free shipping? Using the pandemic for increased price adjustments, it's much easier these days. Learning to wait is a perk of aging.

With Sirius, I recommend doing their on-line chat where you type back and forth with a customer rep rather than trying to understand them on phone where you may have to deal with an accented, fast, or soft-voiced speaker. Be forewarned that they may try to talk you into a reduced price deal on some plan for several months.

If you opt for a plan with streaming as an add-on, you can listen to Sirius on a smart speaker, device, or phone. I actually do most of my listening to Sirius that way, although none of their plans except for the introductory pricing are cheap. Their "mostly music" basic plan comes closest.

I cancelled Amazon Prime today

This AM I searched & ordered an item from an online merchant which cost $8.76 ea, same exact item on Amazon was listed at $12.48. Although I needed to raise my item count to meet the $49 free shipping threshold on that merchant. It was a no brainer, I will need & can utilize the 6 ordered within the next few months. I saved $23.37 over all with my 2% rewards VISA.

I was glad when I cancelled Prime. I was a little worried about losing the free shipping, but I haven't because I just wait until I have more than $25 in the cart. They *are* tricky, though... and this is very important... because even if you have over $25, at checkout they always have the option marked that charges shipping and you need to physically choose the "free shipping" option. If your items have more than one shipping date, you need to check off free shipping for both. I've not forgotten so far and try to keep mindful of it.
