Capturing the joy of accomplishment

Hi, I live in the Pacific Northwest and am working on some unfinished business at this phase of my life. I create art experiences for people with dementia. I conduct classes at assisted living centers and adult family homes. I am simply amazed at the art work produced by people who forgot that they once thought they could not paint or draw. In my early years I was an art teacher and photographer. I now take photos of the people I teach and capture the sheer joy of accomplishment as they hold up and display their art. I have a website so if you would like to see it let me know. I plan to have an exhibit of my portraiture of these 80-100 year old artists who have found this amazing talent. I am also a steward in a city park removing invasives, planting trees and organizing work parties. I also am a blogger and ghost write several blogs. I tend to look at the sunny-side.

I commend you on your dedication to the elderly, Kathy! My late mom-in-law we cared for suffered from Alzheimer's and would talk constantly about the mining disaster that occurred in her youth, so while I was looking for some books on the subject for her, found a guy who was collecting memories and info on the event who ended up interviewing her, told her memories in a book along with her family pictures associated with the event. Until she passed at 91, she reread that book daily, grateful that her memories had found a place. You do great things......kudos....

Hey, Kathy. Another Junior Member. How we do rate! Makes me feel young again. Okay, I'll bite: What's an invasive that you remove from the city park? Hey, I don't know about the others, but I'd be delighted to see your pictures at your website. Thanks for sharing your amazing generosity and grace.

How nice to see the sunshine in the Pacific Northwest today. After many days of drizzle and clouds the sun is an event. I love the green forests here it is all because of the misty rain. There is a fern called licorice, like the candy. It grows almost perpendicular out of the Big Leaf Maple trunks. The trunks are carpeted in moss. A site to see. I am a steward in a local park holding work parties to keep up the restoration work. You can visit "my" park here www.juanitaheightspark.com I also mentioned that I am an art teacher. I am writing a book on teaching art to us (the elderly) and am creating very simple Art Experience kits. I'm almost done and when I have a link I'll publish it. In the meantime, I built a site about my teaching here https://kathyschuler.weebly.com/classes-for-elders.html
