anyone have a car insurance policy where you "pay for what you use"? seems most insurance companies have something like this. i bought a new (to me) 2017 Hyundai in early January of 2000 after someone slammed the life out of old faithful '04 Hyundai. then along comes covid. i don't think i've put more than 1000 miles on the new car in the past 15 months. i know when things get back to "normal", i will not have any commute for work. i don't even know what kind of mileage it gets since haven't had any opportunity to get up above highway speeds for any length of time.

if you have one of those policies that limits your driving mile, i'd love to hear how it works and what you think of it.

My insurance company, State Farm, offered such a program several months ago. However, in order to use it, you need a "smart phone. I just have a basic Tracfone that we only carry with us when away from the house ($7/mo)..in case of car trouble, etc. In order to get one of these insurance company "breaks", I would have to spend hundreds of dollars for a smart phone, and probably $50/month for a subscription....in order to save a couple hundred a year on car insurance.....doesn't make sense.

About once a year, I check on various company auto insurance quotes.....after all, according to their TV commercials, they will save me hundreds of dollars per year. I've had State Farm for decades, and when I compare these quotes, they are All within a few dollars/year of what I pay now.

Take anything these insurance companies say with a bit of caution....and do good research before signing up.
