Anyone know how long carbonation will last in an unopened bottle of soda? I've had bottles they almost exploded when I uncapped them there was so much fizz. Others are almost flat.
I don't know about that, but one thing I've noticed about 2 liter bottles is that once you open them, when you put them back in the fridge if you keep them standing upright, the carbonation will last much longer than if you lay it down flat.
I buy a lot of plain seltzer in 2L bottles that has no sugar or salt in it. They stay in my pantry for a long, long time without losing the fizz. Like Rose said, even when we have an opened bottle it stay bubbly 'till the end. I don't think I've ever opened an old bottle of seltzer and had a flat one. Sugary sodas may be different, maybe they go flat sooner opened or unopened, not sure, don't drink the stuff.
I noticed that it helps if after you remove the amount you want to drink, you gently squeeze the soda bottle so the soda comes to the top of the bottle. Before you let go put the top on. The bottle will stay dented but it will remove excess air from the bottle and keeps it carbonated longer. When you open it again the soda will go down and the bottle will go back to its original shape.
