When I see news stories about people who have lost their home to a fire (or some other disaster), it makes me wonder….what are the things they need right now? Sometimes they have insurance, sometimes not. Often the American Red Cross helps, or churches.
But I got to thinking, aside from temporary lodging what things do people really need when something like this happens?
Toothbrush & toothpaste
Deodorant
Lotion
Soap
Hand sanitizer
Shampoo & conditioner
Hairbrush/comb
Toilet paper
Pajamas/robe/slippers
Washcloth/towel
Socks
Underwear
Jacket/sweater
Replacement glasses or contact lenses
Prescription medication
Books and toys/games for children. (Most thrift shops have lots of these)
Food for a pet
The gift of TIME: Help them to make contact with insurance company, utility companies, doctors, health insurance, BMV, Social Security, bank, post office, credit card companies, schools
Help to compose a list of what’s needed to start over (aside from clothes & furniture). Dishes, pots & pans, utensils, grocery staples.
Any other ideas?
