Cars slipping, sliding and crashing in the snow.. Southern England..

That's why you either have cable chains, for 1-4" of snow. Beyond that, regular chains or STAY HOME.

I had a 1966 Chevy with snow chains AND they'd customized them by welding a bar across the chain that were on the tire tread. They worked on ICE even.

When I let it go, I should have kept them. A set like that now is $200+ to make.

That video is like watching the mess in Vancouver after a snow. No matter how experienced the driver, the wet heavy snow is almost impossible to drive in even with snow tires. Unless one has experienced these conditions, they can’t understand.

Having grown up in Cleveland, which had harsh winters and lots of snow, I learned not to drive in that stuff, and if I did drive, it was a totally different type of driving - slow, lots of space between me and the other cars, slow braking, and no fast movements. (Several naive attempts on slippery roads in Cleveland scared the crap out of me - especially when I tried to stop under the red light and the car slid forward, almost hitting another car or trying to maneuver my way down a slippery road without sliding into or ramming the parked cars on the side). Don't miss that.

The gritters are supposed to be out the night before it's forecast for ice and now.. but this year they've been conspicuous by their absence.. More local council cut backs in Broken Britain ..:cautious:
That's terrible you're having snow plow problems. I wonder if anyone will sue the city for the conditions that caused all the accidents. Over here people sue each other over anything now a days. I bet there will be lots of insurance claims.

People won't be able to sue the councils... we're not a litigation type of country.. altho' it's beginning to get that way slowly.. . The problems with the Insurance claims is that Insurance companies use ''the act of God '' clause, which debars any claims.. then the premiums rise the following year ! Can't win either way sadly..

Come to think of it I think our insurance companies do the same thing.😩

ICBC, the Insurance Corporation of BC, is government controlled. If they have to pay out big repairs, like they did after the latest snowfall in Vancouver, we all sort of end up paying in the long run. Depending on the location, our rates are different.

Met. Office Forecast. Wintry at first. Turning much milder.
Some good news Holly, it may not be a white Christmas. We are less than 80 miles south of you, we haven't had so much as a single snowflake, bitterly cold though.

How is your heating bill, I know that is something @hollydolly is worried about. Our heating bill is supposed to be higher this winter but I have not seen an increase so far but I do not have the freezing cold you are talking about there.

Our central heating is fuelled by gas, supplied by British Gas. A company name of Ovo supply electricity, both are quite expensive. Our house is rather large, much to big for just a couple. We bought it twenty-six years ago, at the time, the UK housing market had crashed, the price we paid for this place was an opportunity too good to miss. When we come to downsize it will leave a good few shekels in the bank.
