There are many inventors from Scotland.

Many people don't know just how they all have made our
lives much easier by inventing things like Tar for road building,
Pneumatic tyres to make our journey more comfortable, T.V.
the Telephone, etc., etc., etc., I won't bore you with any more,
but you can look them up in Google.

One of the greatest inventions ever

According to the Scotch Whisky Association, Scotch whisky evolved from a Scottish drink called uisge beatha, which means "water of life". The earliest record of distillation in Scotland occurred as long ago as 1494, as documented in the Exchequer Rolls, which were records of royal income and expenditure.

John Loudon McAdam invented the macadam road and helped get the world up out of the mud.

One of my favorite jokes, if you'll forgive me:

Remember, golf is a game invented by the same people who think that a bagpipe makes music.

Scotch whisky evolved from a Scottish drink called uisge beatha, which means "water of life".

They still make "uisge beatha" James, it is that first step in
distillation when making whisky. When distillation is finished,
the "Uisge Beatha" is then put into barrels, it looks like Vodka
at this stage and left for some years during which time it
becomes "Whisky".

The longer it is left in the barrel, the smoother it becomes.

Since I posted the definition of "uisge beatha" and how
it becomes whisky, as told to me by a master distiller.

I read somewhere else that the word "Whisky" comes
"uisge beatha", "Uisge" is pronounced "oo-is-key" and
after a few drinks people would drop the "beatha" and
just say "Uisge", which in a drink laden voice came out
as "Whisky".

So either story could be true, but I tend to believe the
initial story about the finish of the distillation and the
barrelling to get the "Whisky".
