Celebrities

Probably more with the internet promoting them all the time, facebook and twitter, and the cable TV shows, many are all about celebrities. I don't fall into that category though, never was very interested in the celebrities or watch the award shows, if I like a movie or a singer I usually like the film or song giving the celebrity some credit but not obsessed with them.

I don't know about other people but Ive never been obsessed with celebrities... Maybe that's why I prefer foreign and independent films.

I usually don't know the actor/actress.

I never watch something just because a certain celebrity is in it.

Yes I think the public in general are more obsessed with them now, but these days it seems all you have to do is take your clothes of on some trashy TV show to become a ‘celebrity’ in my view, fifty years ago people had to earn that status ....

I agree in this day in age, there is more emphasis on celebrities than years ago, thanks to the constant 24/7 'celebrity news cycle',and with technology we live in. It never fails when a highly touted ,unknown actor/actress is in a well reviewed movie, they soon become the new 'It Guy/Girl'. If their next film doesn't do well, they no longer get the publicity&press, they fade away from the spotlight
I grew up in the 50's&60's,used to buy all the movie/TV 'fan magazines.Every yr,I used to watch the Oscars/Emmy award shows, not so much anymore since I've become older. There are a few movie actors/actresses I've been a fan of for yrs,. Gene Hackman is#1 on my list,he retired in 2004. I've seen most of his movies many times He has won 2 Academy Awards,Best Actor for'The French Connection'72,supp actor for'Unforgiven" '92. He's very funny in a cameo in Mel Brook's movie'Young Frankenstein"74,playing the blind hermit Sue

I agree with you, moviequeen1, but back in the day there were several (if not dozens of) magazines where you could read up on all the dirt and accolades on your favorite stars.

My mom digested those monthly magazines as though she were suffering from starvation in the 4 weeks since that last edition.
