I am charles2020 from Ohio this is the first time in communicating with you and may I say it is a pleasure.
ONE OF THE REASONS I JOINED YOUR GROUP IS TO COMMUNICATE WITH THOSE WHO THINK OR HAVE
THOUGHT ABOUT THE WAY SENIORS ARE TREATED BY THE NATURAL SOCIETY TODAY. I MYSELF HAVE AT
TIMES RAN ACROSS VERY RUDE THREATING PEOPLE AND THESE PEOPLE WERE THIS WAY TO ME ONLY BECAUSE
I AM A SENIOR. IS IT JUST ME OR HAVE ANY OF YOU SENIOR EXPERIENCE SUCH RUDE THREATING HATEFULNESS
TOWARD YOURSELF. PLEASE REPLY AND WE CAN COMMUNICATE THANK YOU CHARLES2020

I'm not getting any hate, myself. I do see worry in young people's eyes when they happen to be standing behind me in a queue...probably afraid I'll doddle and make them late for the line at Starbucks or something. Otherwise, more often than not I feel invisible. People here tend to overlook seniors, as though youth equals seniority. :playful:

I have not had a problem with it. In fact, I walk with a cane and when walking, I find people tend to hold doors for me and mothers with small children warn them not to jostle me going into the grocery store. It maybe that I live in the South and people are more tolerant of older folks. I know that as a child I was taught to respect my elders and always say mamm and sir to older people. I still do it now even though I am the same age or older than them.

Hi Charles 2020,welcome aboard to this friendly site.
I really haven't had any instances when people were rude. I'm agree with what terry 123 said about respecting your elders,it was the way I was brought up too Sue

Never experienced hate. I walk each morning and most kids will say Hi and smile, but some kids will just keep their head down when passing you on the street to avoid any eye contact.

I understand your viewpoint, charles2020.
Society’s attitude towards old age is greatly influenced by certain characteristics , such as values, generation gap, media, cultural beliefs and educational background. Many view old age as an unfavorable status or condition, which leads to age discrimination in society. For example, think of the quality and effectiveness of services provided …
Negative attitudes toward old age reflect basically negative feelings toward low socioeconomic status, poor health, and loneliness associated with old age…

“Youth is wasted on the young”, as witty George Bernard Shaw said long ago…..

Welcome Charles, I haven't encountered any rude or hateful behavior, people around me generally are very polite and friendly.

Welcome Charles---How about giving us a bit of your profile.

As for your question---No I don't feel mistreated in any way other than by other seniors that feel they must be treated special.
