Chemical castration for pedophiles!

This policy is now being offered in Indonesia, but it is meeting some resistance by the medical profession and others. Do you believe this approach is OK if voluntary?
 

Now that's kind of barbaric, drawing and quartering would just be so much simpler.
 

I'm not in favor of the "voluntary". A child molester, child rapist, pedophile should be forcibly castrated. However, any law to that effect would need carefully written. If a 17 year old boy has a teenage romance/hook up with a 16 year old, he is guilty of statutory rape and could be deemed a pedophile. Even though wrong, I don't see that as a "castratable" offense. OTOH, if a person forces themselves on a very young child... I would suggest the "chemical" be cyanide gas.

I agree. No sympathy at all for child molesters.

According to Findlaw's website:

"A few states, including California and Florida, permit convicted sex offenders to be injected with Depo Provera, an FDA-approved birth control drug. Often called "chemical castration," Depo Provera is meant to quell the sex drive of male sex offenders by lowering their testosterone levels. The drug does not render any permanent physical change to the body. The treatment is believed to be most effective on sex offenders who possess uncontrollable biological urges that take the form of sexual fantasies that are usually only satisfied by acting on the fantasy."
 
Who can say how much of their drive is biological and how much is just in their head. There are pervy old men ( and women) who are very old and should have no huge sex drive at all that are still leering and acting out. Take away the function of his private parts and there would still be other ways though I don't want to get into that. I think it's the way their BRAIN is wired that is causing the problem and not the fact that they have a functioning organ. The ones with horribly sadistic tendencies would still find a way to fulfill those fantasies & the act in itself upon a child is sadistic in it's nature. I don't really see it as a preventative at all. I think their brain is warped and will remain warped even if you made eunuchs out of them. It might make doing without a little more tolerable for them that's all. But, I'm not an expert. Just my opinion
 
Um okay stoning then? I'll be first and last in the line. I really as the mom of five kids don't believe pedophiles deserve another shot at freedom. They've already proven themselves. Just wipe them off the map.

I've never heard of it either. :confused: My guess is it must be some administered drug that makes erection impossible. Therefore it's a chemical castration, but a guy still keeps his goodies.
 
Alan Turing was injected with Silbestrol, at that time a strong female hormone, which over time, both made it impossible to get an erection and also basically killed his libido. It also muddled his thought processes and caused him to develop some secondary female sex characteristics. Nowdays they use depo-provera.
 
Alan Turing was given the choice of chemical castration or jail for being gay. This was England back then when homosexuality was illegal. He was a brilliant mathematician and code breaker that worked at Bletchley Park during the war. He committed suicide in his forties...
