Chore procrastination

How about..…"I'll do it when I have time" :ROFLMAO:

We could get a good list going, so we can all choose from it, whenever we need an excuse...OOPS,o_O:rolleyes:

I meant, we could choose from the list, whenever it is too cool or too warm....or we don't have time, etc......;)

Some chores I say to myself I will do on the first cool day. Others I say I will do on the first warm day. That way many never get done. LOL
I find I do best when I approach chores and tasks with the mindset of, I'll get to it when I get to it, no time-frames, no dates, no specific days of the week, just when I can.

Not only does my relaxed approach help remind me of the fact that nothing is too important to work myself up into a tither over, but regardless of whether or not I tackle this or tackle that today, tomorrow, next week, or next month, that same job, chore or task, will again be waiting for me in the near future for a repeat, so one day at a time is my adage. :)

I do it when I feel like it.

I live alone, barely cook..have most rooms closed off because I don’t use them... nobody ever comes here...

Only gets dusty and bathroom needs cleaning.

I have a once a month cleaning lady who does a deep clean.....

Cleaning is not a priority in my life.

I do love a clean house and mine is despite what I wrote. :)

One of my moms favorite sayings was... "a lick and a prayer". :)

I make lists.

I try to put the worst chores with the biggest benefit to me at the top and get them finished so I don't have them nagging at me day after day.

Some chores stay on the list for weeks until I realize that they are just not important enough to make it into my top five things to do.

The best part of my system is that I live alone and don't have other people helping me to prioritize my chores.

My personal fave...I'll do it in a bit. FF 6 or 8 hrs...climbing into bed and thinking...oh crap! I forgot to do the thing. Oh well I'll do it tomorrow. 😆

Remind me of the old joke circulating years ago on the Internet. An oldie but a goodie:

I decide to water my garden.

As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide my car needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mailbox earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is only one check left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

I see that the Coke is getting warm, so I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye that needs to be watered.

I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:

The car isn't washed

The bills aren't paid

There is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter

The flowers haven’t been watered

There is still only one check in my check book

I can't find the remote

I can't find my glasses

I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.

Neither my wife or I are procrastinators. We tend to get things done. That said, our schedule of chores is typically very realistic and not filled with trivia. Having a realistic chore schedule is key to avoiding procrastination.

As an incoming Commander or Manager, I have typically been successful in trimming the pending chore list down to something reasonable for myself and my work force. That enables them to concentrate and to feel better about their progress. I kept a "master list", but I didn't want their minds to be sidetracked by things that could wait.

My nature to focus fairly intensely on the task at hand and am the kind of guy who finished his Master's Thesis three months early (some of my classmates hated me for that, but …). My wife was only one month early with hers and she didn't win any popularity contest either. We both tend to finish what we start.

On numerous occasions I have been so frustrated by coworkers or subordinates who could never bring things through to completion. Someone else would always have to pick up the ball.

But as to whether the refrigerator gets cleaned today or tomorrow, .... well ..... .

I suggest, You "hit the middle" on that refrigerator task, @Pecos :ROFLMAO:

It's a new phrase I learned today, from above posts, and I wanted a chance to use it ;)

But it definitely fits! (y):D

Take care not to be too thorough;
You don't want to start a major refrigerator cleaning, and find something else, that requires another big job, you weren't expecting, due to some long forgotten item, in the bottom drawer, or behind the milk!
:oops::rolleyes::ROFLMAO::giggle:

I keep a Running List of things I need to do....right now, there are 14 items on the list. When I chose to do them is largely determined by the importance of the item, and things like the Weather. Most of the items involve outdoor activity, but I keep a few aside for days when the weather is too bad to go out. That way, I get up in the morning, check the weather, look at my list, and almost always find something productive to do. At my age, I've found out that if I don't write something down, I often forget about it....until it becomes a problem.

You know how kids do what they are supposed to when their mother gives them That Look!

When the honey do list is still unfinished Guess what?
