Last week,I was in KMart looking for a fleece jacket, found one. As I was walking past the Halloween section costumes, candy etc, I notice another aisle filled with Christmas decorations. They had everything you can think of including cards&artificial trees. I didn't see any display for Thanksgiving, just cards.
I thought to myself'its too soon for this'.
What has really turned me off about Christmas was the start of"Black Fri',day after thanksgiving. The thought of standing in line at midnight or 4am to get the'best deals' at major stores just repulsed me. its bad enough some store employees have to work that day, instead of the one holiday they could have off to spend time with their families .Christmas used to be season of 'goodwill&joy',now its all about 'GREED' in my opinion.
What are your thoughts on this topic? Sue

Christmas seems to be coming Earlier every year. The stores used to wait until Thanksgiving to put up their Christmas stuff...but anymore they seem to be pushing the season to Halloween. Our local Walmart started putting up their Christmas stuff in mid/late September. These Black Friday, etc., sales are also little more than a gimmick, IMO....the best bargains come in the final couple of weeks before Christmas....if a person is willing to wait.

It's been going on for a while now. With most of the merchants its about profits. Sometimes a Christmas season's profits (or lack of) can make or break a store. It's all business that leans on the Christian celebration primarily.

What I hate even more, is this Black Friday junk. Take a nice holiday like Thanksgiving, family all around, giving thanks for what they have and turn it into a race, even a fight; for "stuff".

I saw a commercial for Black Friday showing a family after the Thanksgiving dinner, running with coats and jackets like lunatics to get to the stores and beat out someone else for a bargain.

A few videos I've seen showed grown young men fighting over Playstations, TV's and other toys. Do they ever grow up? These , I am sure, were not being bought as gifts but for themselves.

No bargain is worth getting me into a store on so-called Black Friday.

I don't care what the stores do or when they do it. I'm doing more and more of my shopping on-line to get the best deals and to find exactly what I want.

As to our decorating for holidays, I take down Autumn and Halloween decor on November 1 and start putting up winter decor (outside). Then I start putting up Christmas light strings but don't turn them on until December 10.

I have my Christmas wreath on my door for awhile now. I figured I better put it out there whilst I remember! Hahahaha.

My lights are up still from last year but I did not turn them on yet.

For the businesses it's the time of year that makes the most money and they need it to thrive I guess. Some don't make much during the year to get enough profits to pay everyone and their benefits.

I hate to see the Christmas items out already but I must admit I probably add to the problem because I take advantage of getting a few things early mainly because I can't stand the crowds.

I was in Walmart going to the garden center to look for pansies and most of it is Christmas decorations. No pansies yet but plenty of snowmen and santas!

Lovely, Chic. I put away Halloween things on Nov. 1, but leave my few Autumn things out for Thanksgiving, at least.

Christmas things come out about 2 weeks before the day.

Whenever I see Christmas items so early I go into Panic mode. I worry worry worry that I won't finish buying my gifts soon enough for the Holiday. Of course the day after Christmas the Easter decorations will be in the stores !

Christmas used to be season of 'goodwill&joy',now its all about 'GREED' in my opinion.

AMEN, 'moviequeen1'!!!
Much like common sense, morality and patriotism in this country the true Christmas spirit is gone or at the very least just a faint memory for our growing children. We who are older are fortunate that we can step back and see what America has lost over time but the children of today accept what they see and hear as what life should be. I feel a sadness when we try and enplane what it was like when we were young and they brush it off with words like "so what"!

Good friend worked for Kmart for many years...Labor day weekend was assemble and decorate the trees so they were ready to go by mid October...
Sadly, and I have 2 grand daughters who have no clue what the real reason we celebrate Christmas is...Ipads and phones by 7 years old, havent seen their bedroom floors in years for all the crap....sad

I'm so not a fan of this. Let's celebrate autumn first.

I'm with you Chic.
