Cochlear Implant Update

I had the most through hearing exam ever yesterday performed at a ENT doctors office by his AUDIOLOGIST. My overall score was a 41 and to be eligible for Medicare to pay for a COCHLEAR IMPLANT I need to score 40 or under. The ENT doc thought that I would for sure score under 40 by August this year and that the procedure could be done at that time. The procedure would take approximately 3 1/2 hours. As I have posted in the past, even with the STATE OF THE ART hearing aids I am presently wearing, my hearing is practically nil. I am so looking forward to the possibility of hearing better and enjoying music which I sorely miss. The operation itself is fairly simple but the entire procedure can run to $100,000. I am glad I have Medicare and a supplement. FYI Most Private Insurance as well as Medicare pay for Cochlear Implants.

Sorry you didn't qualify at this time Lon. I looked into this also and don't qualify. I just purchased A pair of Oticon hearing aids. The last pair lasted me 7 years which they all say is about the lifespan of them. I couldn't afford the top of the line so I hope the ones I am getting will help. They tell me they will because the technology as advanced since the last pair I bought. The first price they quoted was well over $5000.00. This was not affordable for me. After much haggling I got the price down to $4700.00 with free batteries and a 3 year Warranty.. There is a tremendous markup on these things and no insurance to cover them. I'm getting them this Thursday.

Lon - Sucks to be so close to the magic number but not quite make it. Bummer.

Ruth N Jersey - I'm on my second pair. These are from Costco. House brand, $1,800 for the pair. They actually do better than my first pair of Siemens at twice the price.
