Coffee Grounds for your grass

My son told me in the fall to start saving all my coffee grounds and then spread them on my
yard after the 1st mow of spring. I have a good amount saved up with much to my surprise,
DH remembering to put them in the bucket too.
I mulch all the fall leaves so I have that going. Where I live I have mostly forest undergrowth
in my yard and a lessor amount of real grass. I am hoping this works to spread the grass out more.

Anyone do this in your yard?

I was wondering if doing that might be dangerous for if you have dogs out in the yard, and it turns out that coffee grounds can be toxic to dogs if ingested in large quantities. As long as the grounds are spread around, it's probably safe since they won't be able to eat it in "large quantities." Still, if your dog is prone to eating everything in sight, it might not be a good idea.

I am safe there, it is outside the fenced area for my dog. Neighbor doesn't have dogs so good there.
