Comma Problem with Bookshop.org Ebooks on iPad

Commas don't show up when reading bookshop.org ebooks on my iPad. The commas are there when reading the bookshop.org ebooks on my laptop, and the commas are there when reading other things on my iPad, but not the bookshop.org ebooks.

Anyone else have this problem? (I've got a help request into bookshop.org but they're slow to respond.)

Figured it out: I had Dark mode set up for the Bookshop.org books; set it to "Paper" mode and commas are back. It's weird, though; I've had those ebooks set to Dark mode ever since I got the iPad and this just started happening about a week ago; guess it was an update. Now I need to decide how important the commas are since I love Dark mode, seems easier on the eyes.

Setting the DuckDuckGo browser to Dark mode makes it slowwww too.

Well, now another problem has cropped up with this app on my iPad: the leaveabookmark/changefontsize and bookshopmainmenu menus won't stay up on my iPads screen. When it's working right, you just tap on the screen and those menus pop up; and it works right when i first start reading one of their books. But a few pages in, tapping only brings those menus up for a split second so then I can't leave a bookmark; I have to make a note of which page I'm on when I go back to the book.

I've made sure I've got the latest version of their app installed and I've got my iPad on the latest version but no difference. Sometimes reinstalling the bookshop app helps; sometimes it doesn't. I contacted bookmark.org but guess I won't hear anything back 'till after the 1st.

I've never had an iPad. I had a Kindle Fire once. I enjoyed reading on that. But now I use Libby on my phone. That way I can read wherever I am. Is the phone an iPhone? And do both problems exist on the computer too?

My phone is in fact an iPhone. I haven't installed the bookshop app on it since my phone is just too small to read on. I just now tried reading one of my bookshop books on my laptop using a web browser and when I tried to bookmark a page, I got "This feature currently isn't available in our browser's e-book reader. For a more full-featured reading experience, try our Android or iOS app." I could put the Android app on my laptop but haven't bothered since I don't want to read a book on my laptop; that's the main reason I got the iPad; I can be more comfortable--stretched out on the couch, etc.--using the iPad.

Oh, well, maybe Bookshop'll get back to me with some help. It's weird, though: the first couple of pages of the books behave just fine; then that disappearing act with the menus starts happening.

I just received a new Kindle Paperwhite I ordered to replace the one I bought in 2014 or so because certain features were disabled and no longer supported.

I do love it now. I like the paperwhite display because all other displays (computers, phones) are light shining in your eyes which is not good for your eyes.
I also like that unlike my old kindle, the new paperwhite works by touchscreen and swipe.

I don't like that I would have to order a cover separately. I don't think I had to do that on the original.

Alright back to the topic of this thread. I have to see if I'm getting commas.

I wonder if its the type of file you're trying to read and if your IPAD needs a driver or something. I don't know. I don't own a single Apple product. I just read about people's issues with them.

If nothing else if you don't hear back maybe try a different app. I'm in the dark when it comes to iphones, ipads and anything with i before it. I'm strictly chrome and android user. Good luck!
