Company fires 2,700 workers while they were sleeping days before Thanksgiving

A Mississippi-based furniture company abruptly fired nearly 2,700 workers in the US just days before Thanksgiving, according to multiple reports.

Right before midnight on 21 November, thousands of workers – many of whom were asleep – received a text message from United Furniture Industries (UFI) saying that they were terminated effective immediately and were no longer allowed to return to work.

Ebenezer Scrooge strikes again. This always seems to happen before the holidays. It's never happened to me in my life. But still, you can't help but feel for those 2,700 people. They were royally screwed big time. 👿😠😡

Unfortunate, but it seems the company is going under:

Industry analysts predict that United will either file for federal Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, in which it would liquidate all of its assets, or Chapter 11 protection...

Maybe it could have been handled differently, but the company seems to have had little or no choice...

I think it would have gone over better if they gathered people together and broke the news.
Not better for the messenger, but better for the workers.

I can understand why a corp. would want to keep its financial viability a secret in the hope of a reprieve. If it's going out of business, it's going out of business. United had plenty of time to adequately notify its workforce. But notifying employees in the middle of the night is giving the middle finger to loyal workers.

I suspect that most of the 2,700 workers knew this was coming, but not when it was coming. And it would not have been any less painful if the Company had waited until this week, or announced it the week before T-day. It is what it is.

Ah! The "miracle" of the Smartphone! You gotta love it. No rest for the wicked. I would call this a case of "keeping in touch" with loved ones! LOL Some would call this "micro-management!"
