Do you have a composer of theme music you love to hear? Tell us and give a preview:

When I watch a movie or show and the theme music grabs me I have to see who wrote it.
This man's name comes up on many for me. He is probably my favorite composer. I love how in period
pieces he uses the instruments of that area for the feel of the era.

From this, you can see I haven't been to movies lately. This piece from the movie LA LA LAND was composed by Justin Hurwitz, who wrote the score for the entire film.

That's beautiful, I can see why it would make a person listen and notice it. I just looked up some of his other work and he seems to like a bit of Jazz touches in his work. The "First Man" movie he did well with outer space mood in that too. Very adaptable composer to the movies themes.

We need some more participants to post new music themes here. Would love to hear them.

In the meanwhile, here's another old one, going way back. I saw this film some years after it was released and enjoyed it, but especially the music, dated though it may be.

The music theme for the 1964 film "The Yellow Rolls-Royce" was by Italian composer, Riz Ortolani, who scored the entire film, including the song "Forget Domani" with lyrics by Norman Newell.

I have never written any music so to think how they can compose for a movie, all the emotions, twists and turns, drama, laughter and make the music fit to me is very awesome. I deeply appreciate the talent behind it.

Bernard Herrmann is my all time favorite film composer. Herrmann did the music for all of Hitchcock's most famous movies, e.g. North by Northwest (1959).

Film scoring is much different today from decades earlier, usually being not as busy. In contemporary times I've enjoyed Cliff Martinez's minimilist scores, e.g. in The Lincoln Lawyer (2011). One of my recent favorites is Theodore Shapiro, who wrote the tasty score for the Severence series (2022-present). He's also done many film scores. Percussion is much more prevalent today. It's almost become common to have a solo drum set score in some cases, which I think started with Birdman (2014).

I generally do not like vocalist songs in movies or series. They;re generally over wrought and pretentious. Occasionally a vocal movie theme connects, but generally not. If there's something that ought to be said, put it in the movie.
