Concerts, the price of tickets

I heard that a pair of tickets to see the rolling stones at BC place upper seats would cost $900 a pair. I cannot justify these prices, many children in this province go to school hungry, if I had that much money to spend I would rather feed the children. How do you feel? Don't get me wrong I love the rolling stones, saw them in Montreal way back when, have been to many concerts in my time but now, with so much need in our society I feel that my money is better spent elsewhere. Plus I don't think that I could handle all the crowds.
 

The most I have paid was to see Celion
Dilon in Las Vegas about 20 years ago and it cost 200 each and we were not in the best seats. I know that I have spelled her name wrong:)) but can’t remember how to spell it.
 
I understand the feelings about the cost of concert tickets and crowds.
I still go to concerts, but they are at small venues, mostly Jazz or one person performances.

We go to a lot of sports games, not rich but it's what we worked hard for; to enjoy our 'golden years'.
How others spend their money never really bothered me and hope that how we spend our money doesn't upset others.

( if they were performing here, I might consider going with my son, as the wife dislikes them. )
 
I have never and would not spend money on a concert like that,
part reason is my hearing!!! another reason, they are not that great from what I see.....

You are correct in that we shouldn't pass judgement how others spend their hard earned cash. I've spent over $5k on a bicycle, how nuts is that? But at least I can ammoritize the cost over years of use.

The thing for me personally with concerts is value for your dollar. When I was younger I attended quite a few concerts over the years and in truth only enjoyed a couple of them. I've never thought the music was of the same quality as studio music so was always a bit disappointed. But I realize others go not just for the music but for the atmosphere and the experience. To each their own.
 
My first concert was Day On The Green, The Police headlining at the (then named) Oakland Colosseum. I don't remember the price exactly but it was 16 pr 18 dollars. Early 80's.
 
I remember when a ticket to see the Beatles was $3.50, which was kind of a lot back then, actually...late-mid 60s.

My sister recently paid hundreds to see a rock concert, but several different bands performed.

But have you seen the equipment that has to be set up for a concert these days, and the type of equipment? Then there's a bunch of employees who set it all up, and there's coordinators and security, and van and truck drivers, and lighting, sound, and electronics specialists. And all those people get paid.

Concerts are massive productions.

Nope never would I pay those prices.. I'd rather just watch them on Youtube..whoever the band or concert is.. Nowadays with big screen TV's it's like sitting in the Audience anyway...

I'm not in the business of making stinking rich people even richer at the expense of me...
 
Even with ridiculous concert ticket inflation, I doubt lowest priced seats were over $200, much less $900.

Last Thursday in the Fan Club pre-sale, bought two each General Admission GA tickets for The Rolling Stones on July 17 at Levi Stadium (SF 49ers) for $147 + $43 in fees/taxes. Same tickets for the public were $315 each. The GA standing room zone is in the back of the sound board and chairs.

First time in recent years Livenation has provided a GA standing room zone at field level versus all pricy portable chairs. Maybe they are finally listening to those minority of us that feel rock concerts ought have a least a small field area for those of us that can dance.

Nose bleed upper concourse seats were $167 minimum, more often over $200. Chairs on field right in front of stage were $3k to $5k.
 
Goo Goo Dolls must have been good.

I love concerts but won't spend that much. I saw lots of bands when I was younger.

Hey, I paid $2 to see the Beatles at the Indiana State Fair.
 
Concert tickets are very expensive these days but for me they represent a few hours of euphoria, enjoyment and a trip to the past that nothing else can provide. I'm willing to pay up to $300 per seat. Above that, there is really no person or group that I think is worth it.

We have almost filled our bucket list seeing Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Fleetwood Mac, U2, Foreigner, Cher, Stevie Nicks, Journey, Toto, Pat Benatar, the B52s and Chic. I would do it all over again. The Cure and Morrissey are the only remaining acts on our list.

And I regularly give to charity so I can enjoy life without neglecting others who are less fortunate.

When Elton John appeared in Cardiff seats within sight of the stage were £800.
The cheap seats-bring Binoculars -were about £250.
I wouldn’t even consider that.
I refused to pay £50 to see Suzi Quatro.

Unusually for me I have nothing booked but my local theatre tends to be quite cheap-although they mainly attract tribute bands.
The most I’ve paid was £89 to see Katie Melua…and that was me clicking the wrong button and not realising it!

There are quite a few tribute bands near me. Some are very good. The best was a Billy Joel tribute band.

Or Brian Jones, did you know that Lewis Brian Jones fathered five children, all of which had a different mother.
The thread berates the price of concert tickets, the £120:00 that I paid recently for two tickets in the stalls for the Good Friday concert by The Royal Choral Society where we will be treated to a rendition of Handel's Messiah, good value for money.

We paid $150 in 2011 (2012?) for two tickets in Austin, Texas to see:
- an extremely talented rock/jazz band
- ZZ Top
- Lynyrd Skynyrd

Yes, that was Lynyrd Skynyrd after the plane crash, but they were fantastic, put on a very exciting show.

Starting their tour here in April ... it will be their only Texas stop ....

Loved my personal experience of going to a Stones concert YEARS ago - - we paid a few hundred dollars, and got a very up-close to the stage experience (by accident) ,
being pushed to the front by a very unruly mob of fans ... ended up at the base of the stage. Mick and Keith were probably 10 feet away from us.

Guess we were lucky that day.

I only go to smaller events with regional artists these days. Folky stuff like:


Even so, these used to be $10 and now can easily run $50.
