Constant Witch Hunts

Doesn't it feel that not a week goes by without a witch hunt by the media. It is as if the media, apparently on behalf of the public, is a monster that cannot be satisfied without constant sacrifices offered up. Whoever they go after is inevitably doomed to lose their job. I know it is often justified but sometimes it is really not.

This BBC chairman over the Boris Johnson loan is now under order. Did he really do anything very wrong?

If they didn't report on it, they'd be accused of covering it up.

I stopped watching and listening to news media several years ago because it was too distressing. I have paid subscriptions to certain online newspapers and magazines and steer my own ship by CHOOSING which stories to read.

TV, radio and internet news is all about grabbing your attention, so lots of mountains are made of molehills.

A Free Press is guaranteed in our constitution. Would you rather be without it? Separate the wheat from the chaff.

I too, think we'd be worse off, if they didn't do it.

We need more info, in order to make good decisions or to support possible actions, than what we see on the surface, and they look for it, and they direct light on it.
We can then decide what's important to each of us.
(And exercise the remote control. :geek:)

Perhaps it's the endless repetitions, that are most irritating, or the seemingly fabricated angles, the making of gigantic mountains out of some molehills, or the language used... I agree it gets wearisome,
but again, I don't prefer any of the options.
I would rather judge for myself, whether it warrants the viewers attention, or not.

Some people just don't like seeing their leaders criticized.

Reporting on an event that occurred is not a "witch hunt." Desperately trying to find a crime, is. A certain laptop and "news" organization come to mind.

They do it because idiots soak it up. Its how they make money. You can see it even here, as people who know nothing about it keep raving over the whole Royal mess. LOTS of media rags are cashing in over that one, and not one really KNOWS anything.

Great reply…the tabloids appeal to the emotions of those who love news of crimes, death, and denigrating famous people. You gave an excellent example
People on here do not know the royals from Adam, but they get their fodder from the UK tabloids and regurgitate it like robots.

In the UK, we have two different types of newspapers: broadsheets and tabloids. Broadsheets are generally more “intellectual” newspapers, often called “quality press”.

People who do not or cannot think for themselves, love the tabloids (Daily Mail, The Sun etc) they provide short articles, and lots of photographs and how some readers love photographs lol.
The tabloids appeal to some because scandal appeals to some regardless of whether or not the articles are true or not.
