Thanks for that one SB... now it's your fault that I've gone all philosophical again. siiiiigh.

The opportunity to see nature at a level far beyond what our own eyes can tell us is one of technology's great benefits.
I wonder if we appreciate how much more we can see, and learn, of our Universe than our ancestors ever dreamed of?
Due to time lapse photography we can watch the wonders of a flower opening, of seasons changing, of myriad things never 'seen' before. We do it sitting comfortably in our lounges and have it presented to us free, without our having done any of the hard work and knowledge necessary to produce it.
We should appreciate that more than we do perhaps. We tend to take things for granted sometimes, but just imagine how mundane the natural world would have seemed without the Attenboroughs to show it to us, and without the science and technology leaps that made it possible for it to be visible to us.
Think on this.
We are the first human generations to ever see nature, in action, at microcosmic level!
Not on a specimen slide but in action!
Maybe I don't get out enough but I find that kind of mind blowing.
Of all those thousands and thousands of preceding generations, we are the only ones who ever saw that!
How great is that? How lucky are we to be alive in this moment of time?
Sometimes I want to do violence on people who say things like "oh I don't bother with boring documentaries". Philistines!
For all the hurt and horror in our present World, we at least can see that beauty and order lies beneath it in Nature to balance it out a tad. The horror is man made. Previous generations lived with the horrors too, but without ever having the relief of seeing the beauty.
Perhaps that's why they needed religion so much?
I remember Granddad had a much prized powerful magnifying glass, he couldn't afford a microscope, that he would study insects and things with and delighted in showing people how different things looked through it. I often think how ecstatic he would have been had TV, technology and docos been around back then. He just missed out by one single generation! How sad.
