Cornbread - sugar or no sugar?

My recipe calls for a little sugar, but nowadays I would use sugar substitute, tho I have not made cornbread in years. Now I have a craving for cornbread with some butter on it.

I always put a tablespoon in a batch. Improves the taste without making it into a cake.

Sugar with butter melted on top. Usually poke holes in it when I take it out of the oven and spread butter on top. Yum.

Not to hijack the thread, but when I was a kid my grandmother used to have us put ground cornbread into a glass of milk. Try it. It is delicious!

Hot cornbread into a glass of milk is a great supper. If I make cornbread, three good chunks go into a glass of milk.
