I'm very rarely in the right place at the right time but today was my day.

Went to Wally World this morning with mama and apparently they over purchased corned beef for St. Patty Day and wanted to move it so it was marked down from $6.71 per pound to just $2.50 per pound..........we purchased three that were just a freckle over three pounds each.

Froze two and fixed one for supper tonight with potatoes, carrots and cabbage with enough left over for a thin sliced, piled high sandwich or two.

We have a bunch of places around here that make great corned beef and cabbage meals for St. Patrick's Day. One closed a few years ago, but had been around for something like 100 years. Irish pub. Used to make great food. Really Irish place. All the waiters and waitresses were all fresh off the boat from Ireland. It was just down the road from the (Catholic) university where Laurie works.

When some Irish dignitary would speak at the university, he and his people would frequently go down to that pub after the talk. It was very well known in the area...

That looks great, and I love it also. Only have it once or twice a year, but sure do enjoy it. Would eat it more often if it didn't have all the nitrites, and I wasn't trying to cut out most red meat.

my doctor says the same thing to me. But, you know, once and awhile.

I also love those Rueben sandwiches. I think that is sauerkraut, right? I have no idea why I like them, but I do...

Ah, so that's "Corned beef" - it reminds me of the German "Saurbraten", but is nothing like the corned beef that we get in the UK. Although some craft butchers make "corned beef", most comes in tins from South America. Our Corned beef is cooked, pressed and generally sold sliced.

As for "Irish" pubs... many are about as genuine as a £9 note.
