Cousin Taken to Hospital

Received an email this morning that one of my female cousins was taken to the ER and is in kidney failure. Not known at this time what will be done - she has multiple health issues (diabetes, mobility problems and she smokes). She's the one farthest left in the photos.

Haven't heard anymore and I don't want to bother that branch of the family. They are probably dealing with enough right now without my request for superfluous info. I'm sure I'd be notified of any important changes. She's my next to last youngest cousin.

I sent an email to my aunt asking about my cousin. This was her reply:

She is in the ICU until at least Monday, then will be moved to a different room. They are deciding whether to put her on dialysis. She is pretty sick. Prayers are needed.

I saw my aunt at church today and she said that my cousin probably won't be coming home anytime soon.

There was an email from my aunt this morning that my cousin has been moved out of the ICU. That must mean she's had some inprovement.

Not much to report - I saw my aunt on Wednesday and she said cousin's kidney infection is being treated with rigorous antibiotic administration. She's out of imminent danger, but she can't walk. She may have to go on PT.

I wish her well and that she can recover. This is an illness that is very serious. Hopefully, the doctors can make her well again.

This is very true deb. However I don't think you smoke and you are active. That is important.

No, I don't smoke (or drink alcoholic beverages) - I can't stand the smell and I'm too much of a tightwad to throw money away on something so totally unnecessary.
As for active - I do some low impact exercises and walk about a mile a day and am now back to delivering meals-on-wheels.
It's just too bad I have an insatiable appetite.

An aunt who isn't the mother of the sick cousin just called. She said my cousin has been moved to a facility much like a nursing home and is extremely unhappy and wants to go home. I assume they are doing what is best for her despite her feelings. Those places can be depressing.

Yes. But she needs to do the therapy. I hope she is motivated to do so and I hope the place doesn't allow smoking outside with scheduled supervision.

Well, having quit smoking in 2009, I can say that for me, it was miserable. And it wasn't a matter of a few days or weeks of being uncomfortable. It lasted quite a while.

I hope she does well.
