Crank Call From Where??!!

It could be. Don’t answer, which I know you wouldn’t, because some phone companies charge you for an incoming long distance call.

Beware, just because your caller ID displays someone you know, doesn't mean that's who it is. Scammers can spoof caller ID and have it show anything they like. I got a call a couple of times where caller ID showed it was ME calling ! And no, I wasn't calling myself. I truly feel sad for those that lose money to the scammers, the scammers must be making money off of some of the poor souls they call, if they weren't, they wouldn't do it. Maybe someday, if we're lucky, the phone company or the law will find a way to stop the robo-callers, spam and scam callers, or not. Don...

Why can‘t showing a different name & number than is actually calling be prevented or illegal? The big telecoms should put a little bit of their profits into this.

I usually get unwanted telemarketer calls several times a day coming from across the country. They can also “spoof” you by making it appear that they’re calling locally from within your area code whereas they’re not. Most telemarketers will hang up before your answering machine kicks in. Scammers may leave messages with false claims intended to alarm you so you contact them. If I recognize a number doing this more than once, I block the number. You shouldn’t have to deal with exploitative annoyances like this, and I’m hoping that strong laws against scammers and telemarketers soon come out…

I've gotten them also showing my own number. I didn't answer but I turned right around and blocked my own phone number. I haven't gotten one from me since then.

Only a handful of people have my cell #......will get the odd call from a unrecognized #.....never answer in that case.
Land phone......have an answering machine.....my # is in the phone book.....telemarketers used to be a daily annoyance.....very few now.
Now, the trend in the last few weeks has been.....every Monday, important credit issue.....call # back.....nope, not this camper.
This may be a bad habit i have.....check # before picking up....if i pick up....answering machines are a GOOD thing.
I don't use my own voice for machine, use the one that's on the machine.
