I’m not laughing at you, per se but it’s my feeling that Mother Nature deserves that title more than any gods do. And She also didn’t feel the need to write a book instructing DNA possessors how to live or ask that we perform special ceremonies and deeds to ask for Her intervention. We do as we will and She does what needs to be done. She always has been and always will be. I’d bet that more than one bug out bag holds a bible in it but in the end, Nature will prevail, even without any books or recognition of Her majesty and power. She is the ultimate authority.
I probably know less than anyone about cryptocurrency, but wouldn't it pretty much disappear if grids go down?
I don’t think that anyone can answer that for sure. Cryptocurrency is a fairly new phenomena and greed is fairly old. Greedy people have likely invested in some way to hold onto their treasures I feel pretty sure in believing. There are bitcoin “wallets” that hold information about cryptocurrencies owned. Those could probably be used again once the power grids were repaired or somehow made serviceable again. Then too, all of the power grids have never been totally disabled so it’s hard to say what might happen if they were to be. We can guess but it seems silly to be certain. People did manage for quite a while without power grids though.
In one’s personal life we can make that choice but the internet and many other technologies affect our lives in ways that aren’t always so apparent. People as a society are all a big non-electronic “internet” if you consider it. Your snail mail and records of your taxes, paid or due, all rely on people and technology. Both are necessities for us all. Even when the wheel was first made, that was a technological advance that, it seems reasonable to consider, some said they weren’t going to use, preferring the “old ways” of doing things.
Your view of the future seems much, much clearer than mine. But by the same token, it also seems much bleaker than mine. I wish both of us the best future possible.
I totally agree with you, and I should point out that I am not now, nor have I ever been a "Bible thumper", but yea, I believe in God, or "a' god...it's all a matter of semantics to me. My definition of God is Mother Nature, and when I look closely at a plant or creature I see evidence of conscious, thoughtful design. DNA is (IMO) a carefully thought out and planned instruction set(blueprint) for living things.
Unfortunately, the human animal species is decimating the planet. Climate change effects are mounting much faster than scientists predicted less than a decade ago. Humanity’s impact on the Earth is now so profound that a new geological epoch – the Anthropocene – needs to be declared.
A world suddenly without the power grid would undoubtedly be one with long, drawn out suffering, widespread starvation and savagery, and the formation of tribal alliances with little regard for human or other life. People would be ruthlessly warring with one another over basic necessities. Not a pleasant thought at all.
I believe that the TV series The Walking Dead portrays such a world pretty accurately.
Maybe, maybe not. As bad as it may have been in the 1700’s, a few survived and their descendants nade it to the 2000’s. I’m not ready to curl up and dies just yet. I still have some living to do. Maybe I’ll be king some day or you might be the queen of everything at some point in time. Not likely, either way but possibilities nonetheless. But I don’t have any powers to see beyond right now. And just as soon as I wrote that, right now became just then. Whoa, I didn’t see that coming either!
