Data Miners Selling Personal Data To Health Insurance Companies

At least two data mining companies Axciom and Lexus have admitted to selling private spending data to health insurance companies. So if you pay for your supermarket bill, nights out, snack food or Mickey D runs electronically by debit or credit card your health insurance company might use that information to increase premiums. Like cookies, that's another 20 a month, like red meat, that's another 100 a month. Also be aware a lot of those rewards or club card membership wind up selling your data or spending habits as well. Better pay for those french fries with cash.

Those in the health care industry buying and using that data say it's to improve your health. Oh how nice. Not only can this be used for insurance premiums this might be used to counter a lawsuit saying you did something to mess up their treatment.

Be aware and afraid of your electronic trail. There's nothing innocent about it because the those who try to use it are not innocent.

I eat very healthy, I should get a deduction! :)

But will you. Will it work both ways. I know with gym memberships some insurance companies want 180 visits a year which is almost every other day but you might run or workout at home 365 days a year but you must document for health insurance coverage or reimbursement. I guess you would have to show a regular pattern of buying "healthy" foods. It's still an invasion of privacy no matter what you eat or do.

You get "monitored" everytime you use a credit card, even the cameras will catch you if you're paying cash.
Ever think who is watching you at the gas pumps, they may not know you but they got your liscense plate number.

Lets not forget the "new" personal drones can see you peeing or whatever in the garden too.
