deciding whether to join community solar panel grid?

The town I live in entered into an agreement with a Solar energy company to promote clean, locally generated solar power and energy savings to residents. Customers who subscribe to this service can save up to 10% on their utility bill.

Community Solar is a government incentive program where electrical supply customers virtually subscribe to receive solar energy credits from a solar farm located within their utility. The solar company matches energy customers with local solar farms while supporting sustainable energy.

No need for solar panel installation on roof or property. You will be sponsoring a portion of solar energy produced at local solar farm based on energy usage history. I will be billed for solar energy credits produced on my behalf. Any excess credits will carry over to next months utility bill.

You didn't mention if it would cost extra $$$ so I suppose it doesn't.

Just last week we had some young men going door to door trying to sell one of these special billing programs through local utility ...... one thing was clear is once in ....i could NOT back out. They also wanted an answer that day without any thought put into it.....
i wonder what happened to all the money they previously collected by those who actually paid more per kilowatt hour under the idea that Their power was either wind or solar even though once on the grid it is all one.....
they talk up a big thing of credits that COULD cut your bill and on and on........ but they were wishy washy about the cons.....
like other layers of fees etc ... and what if solar did not generate the maximum possible........ which is what they base their glowing estimates on ......if you get paperwork to study .... that lays out all the MATH used for these things but i would not listen to glowing sales pitches

this pushed hard in my area program .... they wanted me to install panels ........in a state that is not known for sun ... and made big promises that i knew simply were not true....... when i asked hard questions they panicked.
a panel system at best case price would be about 25K plus installation but their program would help with UP to 10K.......
They had all this layered fees and formulas that would make very little bill difference .........

I guess the reality of the last media push ...... showcasing some willing people in my area ........ who paid out lots for panels that will only last about 10 years ....were generating an extra electricity that equaled .......... a whooping NINE dollars a year...

I remember a time this sort of tactic was called bait and switch....... but that seems ok anymore as long as it fits an agenda.....

Some people in Texas could tell you about solar power companies. When the sun is shining, they are making cheap power. But when they can't, you can get stuck buying power on the open market- which can be expensive as hell. Solar power can be cheaper, but it's not a 24/7 reliable, continuous power source. There will always be another power source to back solar up. From what I understand about the problem in Texas, is buying needed power on the open market.
