The world's oceans boast some very deep depths.

The deepest is the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean
at a maximum-known depth of approximately 11,000 meters (6.8 miles)

Yep, I was only about 8 years old but I still clearly remember the day the Trieste dove to the bottom of it. To me as exciting as the manned space program.
