Defunding Threats, Low Morale and Future Residency Requirements Depletes NYPD's Force

This is what happens when people try to impose ideas instead of what really works .... NYC prices a beat cop could not afford to live in the city and outskirts are better for them and family...
a persons attitude and experience far out weighs a checklist if right sex/ ethnic origin/ and residence to fit a diversity model.
No matter how many times this is proven some group somehow believe THIS time it will work..... SMH

even a cow learns about an electric fence after a while why can 't government employees learn to research each time these requirements are tried Again the same things happen ... people quit/ they do not have the base to recruit viable candidates and when policy reversed ....
in a few short years it will be tried again by those INSISTING on repeating the same mistake.

The last thing a cop who works and lives in the same city needs is a bad guy following him home.

Well, that's a whole lot of video clips from right-wing media. :D

I'll say a couple things. Firstly, members of the Police are hired largely, from the communities they serve. That is, cops aren't traveling 100 miles to get to work, generally. So you get good cops, bad cops, smart cops and not so smart cops. They're a reflection of the people they serve. There are also 18,000 police agencies in the US, so they'll vary a lot.

Secondly, and I don't want to turn this political, but there is a movement to destroy the fabric of the United States. This is being done in many ways, but one of the most pernicious are the constant attacks, undermining, and heaps of conspiracy theories, about institutions that truly made American great. Be it Congress, the Police, the FBI, and Justice Department, the FDA, the court system - they are constantly being attacked these days. Yet without these things, American would be a very different place. It's largely about right-fighting, where some people just can't handle an agency doing something they don't agree with.

Of course, there aren't calls for the institutions not to exist, instead there are calls to make them more biased one way. This is exactly how demagogy does its damage. It's attacking the nation at its very foundation and is part of a larger plan to have a President that is more akin to a dictator than an elected official. It's a very very dangerous journey to be on.

Still, that's 2023 for you. The very idea of de-funding Police is, for me, madness. They need MORE resources. Moral will be low while the people in the job are under constant attack from people attempting to own them. Worse, a society that calls on them when they're in need, but have little respect for the law and truly only want the cops to do what they're told, rather than what is right.

And yes, all these agencies have done "bad" things, made mistakes, etc. It happens. But we never bother looking into all the good work they do, which dwarfs the bad.

KiKi lives the safe life in Valley Stream. Well that's when she is not at Gracie Mansion. lol.

I dislike the term "defunding the police"- that is a politically biased term. For what they do, cops should be adequately trained, and adequately paid more than they are now. The only reason to have cops live in the city is to provide a cheap 24 hour police force, by making each cop's home a mini police station.
