Dentures: Your experience with them.

I don’t have personal experience with them but my kids are dentists.

Most people will be happy with theirs, especially if they had really bad teeth and will tolerate them well. There is a small percentage that will never get used to them.

Also, lower dentures are more difficult and should be avoided if at all possible.

My grandmother had dentures and she even slept with them although it’s recommended that you take them out when sleeping.

I had to have dental surgery on two of my teeth on the upper two back. It ended up that they had to be removed. I had the choice of either a partial denture or implants. I chosed implants.

My Mom had full upper and lower dentures and never complained about them. I do remember her having to have them replaced because they wore down. So, that may be something to consider, if you are in the market for dentures.
 
I had "soft" teeth from a very young age, inherited from both parents, & spent lots of time every year getting the range of dental care, even tho I was in a group of kids who had "experimental" pioneering fluoride treatments. The whole range, drilled, filled, root canals, crowns & finally extractions. Got the last of them out over 10 years ago & had a "denturist" make the new ones. He did very well, fine tuning till perfect. Very expensive but they lasted that long with good care on my part. Finally early last Dec I bit into a hard pizza crust & the upper broke right down the middle. The lower is still perfect, never any trouble there. Am still in the process of getting it replaced, have a temporary while they are working on the new upper. Also very expensive, but it will be very good I'm sure. I was very very glad I did it & still am, but think the secret is having a denturist who will work with you patiently until it feels perfect.
I know nothing about dentures with implants & frankly the idea of having screws put into my jaw bones through my gums creeps me out. Ick
 
I didn't have good results with partial dentures but I've had excellent results with full dentures.

Lower dentures are usually more of a problem for folks because they don't have much to grip or hold on your lower jaw.

My lower denture attaches to a Hader Bar that holds them in place and works great.

Today I would probably go with an overdenture that attaches to a series of implants.

I'm fortunate to still have all my teeth, but I've had a lot of fillings, crowns, and a couple root canals.

Of the people I know with dentures, some haven't had problems but others have. It's a mixed bag.

I know a few people who have full implants with no problems. They cost a fortune but look great.

I’m quite particular about keeping my teeth. Both my parents still have all their teeth also.
Some of my in-laws have a full set of dentures.
 
I have all my teeth, thankfully. But a couple of years ago my sister decided to get full dentures instead of partial bridges or whatever they are called, and she has had nothing but trouble ever since. Her dentist is one of those who uses the "new method" of fitting the plate immediately instead of waiting on the gums to heal from extractions. It has been a nightmare for her and she's had nothing but regrets about having all her teeth pulled.
 
One of the good things about that denturist I had was that he took all sorts of measurements & impressions before the extractions & made a temporary set to put in right after that along with rinsing etc seemed actually to relieve the discomfort & help healing, & fitted & fine tuned the final one after about 3 weeks, but i didn't have to go around with my face caved in in the meantime.

My experience was the same, I had an inexpensive set of teeth installed the day my extractions were done and a final permanent denture several weeks later.

I've heard pros and cons of doing this vs waiting but I felt much better about myself with the temporary denture and would do it again.
