Dept. of Energy: COVID Most Likely From Laboratory Leak

Although the DOE cited low confidence in it's finding (so why even report it now?) the FBI agrees that it likely came from a lab leak, according to a news report I saw yesterday. Other government agencies are subscribing to the transmission from animal to human theory, however.
"The Energy Department has now concluded with "low confidence" that the COVID-19 pandemic most likely began after an unintentional laboratory leak in China, according to the Wall Street Journal, which cited a classified intelligence report provided to the White House and members of Congress.

There are two competing theories about what started the COVID-19 pandemic in China: that the virus jumped from animals to humans at a market, and that it was accidentally leaked from a lab where researchers were studying coronaviruses. Neither has had enough evidence so far to be conclusive.."

I sooner believe the leak theory because while 3 Virologists were working in the lab on some forms of a SARS virus, they all became very ill and was taken to the hospital and confined there for an unknown amount of time. It was like at least 2 weeks later, but I think it was longer, was when the Chinese used the bat theory.

If you have never been to a wet market in China, (I am sure others here may have), I can tell you it’s a disgusting place. They sell live (and dead) animals inside the market house and once you purchase the animal, they will kill it and dress it for you. I watched as they did a duck, a huge fish of some species and when they were going to do a huge turtle, I moved on. They also had monkeys for sale. They have hoses at all the stands, so when they are done killing and cleaning whatever animal they just finished with, they hose everything down. Because of all the water on the floors and because they sell animals is the reason they are called ‘wet’ markets. The other markets where they sell vegetables and fruit are just dry markets or just markets. A lot of Chinese do their shopping at these markets each day to guarantee freshness, or so they think.

I should also tell you, wet markets smell nasty for the most part, but it’s an interesting place.
 
Personally, I believe in the lab leak and should we be creating bio-weapons in the first place?

I never believed the bat story either Don. I felt it was from a leak all along. Whether it was accidentally or on purpose I don't know. But see how this works. They are reporting a probably truth but still trying to play it down (the "low confidence" statement). @chic @Been There

I don’t understand your post, sorry. I believe the lab leak is the more believable story because had it been bats in a wet market, I would have thought many more people would have become I’ll. If you ever go to a wet market, you will see it is a very busy place with scads of people.

Apparently you didn't understand my post. I clearly stated that the lab leak is more believable than the bat story when I replied to Don
"I felt it was from a leak all along." Perhaps you are confused because I tagged you. I did so because I noticed from your post that you and I (as well as Don and Chic) are of like minds regarding this topic.

My thoughts are Covid is man-made. Leaked or released? As ordinaries, we may never be know. Guess the "low confidence" news release is the best we can hope for. Might I add that I have extremely low confidence in the agencies releasing this information. Works both ways.

My thinking on Covid being man-made is from seeing how virulent and resistant to elimination it is. It appears to re-configure itself periodically as vaccines are developed to counter it. Also, its shape. Classic caltrop. No matter how it lands, it is going to attach itself to a host. Man thinks like this, nature not so much so.

Bio agents-which I am convinced Covid is-are notoriously dangerous to muck about with. Generally, they are extremely lethal close in, but generally expire when exposed to light-esp. natural sunlight. Again, Covid appears resistant to this. Closing my thought loop again that this is man-made.
 
I believe it was man-made and leaked purposely... I also believed it was Bill Gates, and the WEF... and Mr. Gates had claimed that another pandemic is going to be around soon... Forget the name of it, but it's supposedly supposed to be even more deadly... causing bleeding from the eyes and nose... Asi said to @chic who made these people Gods... This world is in BIG time problems with these millionaires who are trying to dictate the world and cut the population down... Just my beliefs... Lost a few friends because of the covid vaccines, and these people were the healthiest...

Viruses mutate...that's what they do, so I knew COVID would be no different. You wrote: "I have extremely low confidence in the agencies releasing this information." I'm with you on that one Arnold. It's a shame we can't trust the agencies that are supposed to exist for our protection. Even bacterial diseases can be dangerous, such as an untreatable strain of gonorrhea. We in the communicable disease department tasked with following up on syphilis and gonorrhea (GC) and other STDs knew the day would come when GC would have an antibiotic resistant strain due to having so many patients who repeatedly got infected and the way patients handled their treatments (not taking all if it was pills and sharing meds with their partners).

Thank you for the explanation. You were correct that I was confused.

I think the reason that China won’t admit fault is because they are looking at having to repay governments of the countries that spent a lot of money trying to contain the disease that they don’t want to be held accountable and at last count, I heard that they would have to repay some $2 trillion in repayments. I think I heard that on either the BBC or NPR radio.

I have a friend who believes Bill Gates is evil. She cited him seeking to "thin the herd" as the saying goes, of the world's population, especially in Africa. I don't read up on him like she does, so I don't know. Some people say his words on that subject were misinterpreted. Also, because he's rich, does that make him an epidemiologist? NO! So how and why does he get to predict things of a medical nature? Inquiring minds want to know.

There are numerous reports or written opinions that whoever may be responsible for releasing the Virus be held monetarily accountable. Here is just one. I don't think there is an international law that deals with it, but I am not saying there isn't, either.

I doubt this has chance of approval unless they can prove China released it on purpose, and collecting the money if it were created in a lab, would be a 1 in 1,000,000 chance, anyway.

I heard the rumor that it spread worldwide so fast because it did not emerge from China at all but from a military base in the Eastern United States. Let the conspiracy theories role. This makes some sense to me if this virus was intended to be used as weapon in future wars between nations. Personally, it was disastrous but anything pertaining to war always is.
