My mother attended Catholic School and told of having her hands smacked by Nuns with a ruler so hard she would cry.

I, too, had nuns for most of my schooling. The nuns all had these thick yard sticks with metal ends. Were the nuns good? Hell, yeah. They could cut a fly in two, from the eyes down, with one of those rulers.
