Dick Van Dyke Show in Color on CBS

Just wondering if anybody else watched the CBS special tonight ? They aired a colorized version of the show. Episode was the one when Laura let it slip that Alan Brady was bald. I don't know if I like it or not but it is very surreal to me. I didn't like it when Turner colorized classic films a couple of decades ago but I don't mind this as much since it is a TV show.

I didn't see the show, Mark, but I'm not a fan of colorization of old movies and shows. I feel black and white has its own nuances and beauty and should be left that way. I'm a fan of black and white photography as well, so doing the inverse, sometimes I'll remove the color from a photo I've taken and often find it much more interesting.

Was never really a fan of the show, but if I was would not have watched. I am with others here who wish they would stop colorizing things. Leave them be. I think their whole thing was to appeal to younger people, or t make it more modern. I say leave them alone. Part of the appeal of old movies and TV, for me, is that they are old..and in black and white.

I love the Dick Van Dyke show. It was so cleaver and sophisticated for it's time, but I didn't see the episode. I'd heard it was going to be aired on CBS. What time was it on? No date or time were given where I live.

It was on after 60 minutes this past Sunday. The first episode was the one where Rob thought they brought the wrong baby home. Second was about Alan Brady's hair. I'm glad I checked out the colorized version but in the future I'll stick with the b&w versions :)

That was one of those shows that seemed to pay attention t detail. Almost too much on that set. But it was well done. I always wondered with TV shows from that era were they filming with black & white or color tv sets in mind.

I saw bits and pieces of it. What I saw of it,I think they did a good job. I was upset because my hubby recorded Madam Secretary, and that was on instead. Now have to watch the episode I missed on my computer.

Has anyone ever seen the pilot show of this series? It was called "Head of the House" and starred Carl Reiner as Rob Petrie. The concept (Rob a writer for a TV comedian) and characters were the same as for "The Dick Van Dyke Show", but after the pilot, all the actors were replaced with others. I think after seeing the pilot, the change was for the good. The latter cast seemed much warmer and had more chemistry than the original.

character - pilot - final
Rob Petrie - Carl Reiner - Dick Van Dyke
Laura Petrie - Barbara Britton - Mary Tyler Moore
Richie Petrie - Gary Morgan - Larry Mathews
Sally Rogers - Sylvia Miles - Rose Marie
Buddy Sorrell - Morty Gunty - Morey Amsterdam

Dick Van Dyke was one of my favorite tv shows back in the day but I never saw the original pilot.
