Dickie Betts has died

He was one of the best musicians no one has ever heard of. I've often thought he could have been more well known, if he hadn't gotten tied up with the Allman Brothers. Of course who would pass on an opportunity to play with the Allman Brothers, even if it meant being lost in the glory of such a band? He did put out at least one album that didn't feature the Brothers, which I had in my collection back in the day. I listened to it as much as I did any Allman Brothers album.

I'm crushed. The Allmans were the favorite rock band of the kids I hung out with in my teenage years and I felt the same. Great songs and memories. What teen doesn't feel like they've been tied to the Whippin' Post.

RIP to one of my favorite guitarists. Blue Skies always.

I love his music! He was the greatest best guitarist ever. I saw him in concert twice with his own band and I was stunned. Beyond applause. Unbelievably great. Played nonstop no break not singing much. FREE. outside. Also saw him with Allman Bros twice so I am a huge fan. He has albums apart from Allmans I recommend. The Great Southern. Also a DVD. I feel as bad when Ray Price died years ago. Another fine singer I liked
His son is in a small band playing his songs on tour.
Dickie had a bad fall down years ago
So sad. Gone.

This is one of my favorites. Betts wrote, sang and played on this. It was written about the Native American belief that there are seven times in life you must make a decision that determines you path you take in life to progress to the next life.
