Did Something Rather Stupid This Evening

Someone buzzed my buzzer. I wasn't expecting anyone or any packages so I went out my door and down one flight to the mailroom. I could hear 2 people talking. One was asking the other if they parked in the driveway. The woman said yes. The man said is your car broke down? Then they chatted some more and I started back up the steps when the man came out and it was a policeman. I asked him if he rang my buzzer and he said no. I said oh I wonder who it was. I looked and no one was there by the door buzzers. So I came upstairs and went to my door to go in and it was locked.

I thought Did I lock the door mistakenly? I tried the door handle again and sure enough it was locked. So, I thought maybe it's not closed tightly because sometimes my door isn't closed tightly and opens. So, I kind of frantically tried to open the door with the door knob again and I even pushed hard against the door. I wanted to see my pets and could not!

I thought Oh no, I'm going to have to get the x managers and buzz their buzzer for them to let me in and I have no shoes on! I would have to go to the next building down. I was wondering how absentminded I could have been to lock my door without having the keys with me. So, I headed out the door and down the steps and thought this is strange....why isn't the exit where it usually is-down a flight?

So, I went back in another door and there it was--my door with the wreath on it and a welcome mat. I went in my apartment feeling rather foolish.:p

Apparently I had gone up one flight too high. I had been twisting my upstairs neighbor's door knob and pushing against his door like a crazy woman!

I hope I didn't scare my neighbor! I should have seen clues up there--no door mat and no wreath--yet I thought it was my door as I was befuddled by the whole episode! o_O;)

I've done that before, too! Took a long time to find it in a huge parking lot. Now I look for markers to remember.
I've started doing that too: when I get out of the car, I look up, "Okay, I'm parked in the row down from the Pharmacy (or whatever) sign." When I remember to, of course, sigh; I'll remember I forgot to do that when I come back out of the store & start looking for the car, darn it!

I'm glad you're okay Ruthanne and you weren't locked out. Lucky your neighbor didn't call the cops on you, lol. I can see where you made a mistake like that. I bet you were relieved to be safe inside with your babies.

I wasn't at the neighbor's door very long and he may have not been home...or so I hope :ROFLMAO: Yes, I was very relieved to be back in my apt.!

Have any of you came home, sat on the toilet and then discovered......."Hello, this isn't my throne," then panicked to get out of there and into your own home?
No? Neither have I, but what a nightmare that would be to be caught with your kecks down doing the business in someone elses place.
Pooooooooh, not worth thinking about. 😊

Sorry, this episode put me in mind of a real life event:

Amber Guyger convicted of murder in wrong-apartment killing of innocent man

Botham Jean was shot to death in his apartment on Sept. 6, 2018.
"A Texas jury rejected former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger's self-defense claims and convicted her of murder on Tuesday in the fatal 2018 shooting of an innocent man eating ice cream in his own home after mistaking his apartment for her own."

Ruth, I am SO Glad you are Okay!

Students are notorious for pranks. At the college I attended one of the lecturers had a small piece of blue ribbon tied to the areal of his car so that he could tell, at a glance, where it was. That is until a dozen or so, small minded students tied a piece of blue ribbon to every car in the car park. Childish, I know, but harmless and it made the local newspaper, although I suspect a student photographed it and sent it off the the newspaper office.

We all do those funny things at times.
I was at a shopping centre and when I went to my car it would not unlock. I thought that the battery in the key fob must be flat.
I sat on the bonnet of my car pondering what to do.
A man came towards me saying "What do you think you are doing"?
"My car will not unlock"
"No wonder, he said, this is my car"
My car was on another level.

Been there. Going into a store that had several entrances. Go get things then go back out & try to find my parked car. Don't see it so I push the panic button on the key fob. Only to hear the horn beeping way on the other side of the building.

Course I knew it was mine as I installed two of the diesel train horns on my vehicles. Also, putting the key fob up to your chin while pushing the panic button & holding a hand way up in the air makes for a much better antenna so the signal will go a long way.

Now I have an App. on my C.P. that I can bring up while in a store & it shows me where my car is parked. Grandkids got me to get a smart C.P. After they taught me all the things it can do I'm lost without it.

After reading your first post, I thought you were going to say .... "then I woke up from this nightmare" ..

Glad it all worked out okay for you.

I've had those thoughts of getting locked out of my apartment too, and also getting stuck inside our building elevator that I use several times a day.
I try to remember to take both my keys and cell phone every time I leave, but don't always.

I had just got the keys for into my brand new home. It was in late January, about 2 AM, and below "0". I turned the furnace on for the very first time. My car was right outside and I needed something. So, just wearing a tee shirt, I ran out for a quick trip. The house keys and my car keys, were on the nice warm counter. Yup, the door locked. I had to break into my back door to get in. I had to. Nearly froze to death. DUMB.

I did that once with cars. I tried to put my key in the lock and it didn't work. I looked inside the car. Nothing looked unfamiliar. I looked around to see if anyone was watching and saw my car parked in the next row. Took a step back and looked at the car I was trying to open. It didn't look anything like my car. WTH? My brain decided to take a short vacation without me.
