Did you ever buy a gift for someone and liked it so much you kept it?

This past Christmas I was looking for a gift for my cousin. I came across a cute little bird perched on a hook that you put on the wall. You could then hang anything you would like from the hook. After I got it home, the more I looked at it the more I loved it. I had to have it and I knew I got the last one on the shelf. I bought her another gift and kept the bird. I recently put it up in my now finished kitchen but every time I look at it I think of what I did and to make matters worse she came for a visit and admired the bird. Have any of you kept a gift you bought for someone else?

No, not yet.

I have been guilty of pulling tags off gifts and giving them to other people, when I've had unexpected house guests. I got that from my mother, she always had two or three extra presents under the tree in case someone popped in unexpectedly.

Yes, but then, I often pick gifts that I would be just as happy to get if I were on the receiving end. As a matter of fact, I kept one item gave the other two just recently, I figured they wouldn't miss the third gift since the person was only expecting one gift anyway. This is one of the reasons I try not to buy edible gifts too far in advance, if it's chocolate, it probably won't last. Most recent wasn't edible, that's usually around holidays.

No, but I have given gifts that I thought I would like to receive or have myself. One was an elephant shaped Himalayan Salt Lamp, but it was a gift for my nephew and he really liked it, so that was a gift for me in itself. :love_heart:

No but once I almost did. It was a birthday present for an old friend. We didn't exchange birthday presents, but that year her hubby gave her a surprise party.

I bought her a lovely, Waterford cut-crystal perfume bottle, with the old fashioned long, black attachment for the atomizer that had a tassel hanging off it. It was expensive, but small enough to be affordable.

How I wanted to keep it!

Every year, at Christmas, we all buy a "white elephant" gift, and have a drawing after the main presents are all opened. More often than not, us guys swap what we got in the drawing, and most of us wind up getting our own item back. So, we all buy something we can personally use.
