Did you ever have someone do a welfare check on you?

I got one of those today. I forgot to check in with my friend this week Wednesday. I was really tired because I got up early for maintenance to fix my sink. So I went to sleep and left my phone in the living room.

She told me she called me 5 times and no answer. So the fire department and police came here and pounded on my door. I didn't even hear them.

Anyhow meanwhile she (my friend) said they were going to try and get my door open and then I woke up and walked into the dining room and heard them and let them in. I just told them I'd been sleeping đź’¤. I thanked them a lot and especially my friend.

Ever happen to you?

I misdialed 911 and hung up before the call was answered and they sent the PD, anyway. He made my 5 or 6 yo daughter come down from her room and speak w him. I'm not fond of interacting w cops and being an exigent circumstance I had no way to control the situation.

Perhaps giving her a person to contact in a similar situation that would check on you instead of PD/FD would be an alternate plan.

Oh I wasn't complaining about it. Just wondered if anyone else has been through that. It's fine to me to do just what she did. They were very concerned, nice, people who came out.

A dear friend of mine lived in a small compound of 5 units. She was friendly with the neighbour opposite, and they had an agreement that when each was awake in the morning, they would raise their blinds to show they were okay. Well, this particular morning my friend didn't raise her
blind and the neighbour became alarmed and telephoned her daughter to tell her. She came around to her mother's place and found her dead on the floor next to her bed. The medical report came back that she had probably died about 3 am, and the cause was her pacemaker had failed to inform the hospital where it was monitored. It was a fairly new pacemaker and maybe faulty.

I've had neighbors try and would knock on my door. I told them to stop doing that since disappearing is a normal part of my life and none of their business. Like now........I've been in the hospital since the weekend and only informed the landlord, and they won't say anything. Plus I am known for just taking off for days or weeks without telling anyone. I told my neighbors not to bother unless they smell a foul odor coming from my apartment.

What if you fall or have a sudden stroke and can't get to the phone. You won't die right away, you may just laying there for days or weeks, in pain.

I don't have anyone. I am working to find somebody soon, before the day comes.
Does anybody know where to find someone to be my emergency contact and/or healthcare power of attorney for a fee? I am willing to pay.
I use Snug Safety (a free phone app) to check in daily. If I fail to check in at or before the time I've chosen, they text my emergency contact. If you don't have someone to name as your emergency contact, maybe talk to your doctor's staff and see if you could list their office as an emergency contact, or if not, what else they might recommend.

I don't have a medical power of attorney but I have a medical directive on file at my doctor's office, stipulating what should be done if I'm in a life threatening situation and cannot speak for myself.

Yes. Back in the last stages of my Xanax addiction one day my friends called a welfare check on me after I wasn't answering my phone. At the time, I was furious, but I realized they likely saved me from sinking into unconsciousnes and eventual death.
Yes, indeed!

It's great that you have someone who cares about you so much. It's also great that they didn't do whatever they do to get doors open (in case that causes damage). I've never had a welfare check done.
It is really great and showed me she is a true friend đź’—. Ty
