Tonight I ran into the supermarket. The area I was in is predominantly Jewish. The store staff is largely young and maybe not aware of their customer's culture. I saw someone had dropped a yarmulke. Someone had left it on the window ledge and I brought it to customer service, heavy rain expected tomorrow.
The girl at the counter looked quizzical and then threw it into lost and found. I had a giggle imagining the owner coming back to claim it. "Excuse me Miss? I seem to have dropped a yarmulke here the other day, I wondered if anyone had found it perhaps?"...
"A...hum...uhhh I mean was it on a leash or anything?"
"CRYSTAL, come over here...okay can you tell her what you're looking for?"
"Oh yeah, I saw those by the pizzas and stuff, yeah aisle 15"
The customer is rubbing his forehead
" TAMARA can you help this gentleman please?"
Now Tamara is head cashier so she has to have an answer...
" I'm sorry sir, I am so sorry, that is seasonal...we ran out of that last week yeah"
The customer is already wandering out the door, he can get another before services next week...
