I was not an avid reader of them, but I did have a few. Boy do I wish I would’ve saved them:

The first document I was ever able to read and understand was a Donald Duck comic book. It made such an impression on me that I still remember it.
When I was about 13 a friend gave me some of his horror comic books. They soon mysteriously disappeared. I never figured that out.

Not too often, most of my spending money went for food when I was little and cigarettes when I was a bit older. 
My grandmother had preserved many of the things that my father, aunt, and uncles had when they were growing up.
That included a good selection of big little books from the 30s.

I was allowed one new comic book a week but we all traded them around, so everybody got to read them and keep up.
I liked Superman and Archie the best.
Going to my cousins' house was a real treat because they had lots and lots of comics, including ones I wasn't allowed to buy. They also had the movie magazines and the "true confessions" ones that were no-nos, too.
Forbidden fruit is the sweetest, y'know.

Not only did I read comic books, I used to sit in class (grammar school) and draw romance comic frames. Never did anything with them though.
My favorite comic books was the Archie series. I'm sure I bought the romance ones too, but can't think of the names.

I loved comic books! My girlfriends were reading Archie and True Romance (gag 
), while my nose was in Daredevil, Justice League, Superman, Batman, The Avengers, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Silver Surfer, Iron Man, Captain America, and The Incredible Hulk. What can I say? I like men in tights, lol. 
If I had to choose between buying a comic book or a candy bar because I didn't have money for both, hands down, I'd buy the comic book.
