Did you shoot our dog?! - a rant

So these people from down the road pull in my driveway and knock on my door. I open my door and this couple is standing there and the woman yells in my face " Did you shoot our dog?!!" Her idiot of a husband is standing there like a body guard with a stupid nasty look at me. So I said " No I didn't kill your damn dog YOU DID. It's one hundred percent your fault your dog is dead. He was a mean dog. He spent the last month at my house almost day and night. He's been dead about a week & you are just now asking about him. You drove past my house every day & saw him here and never cared. He chewed on my fruit trees and tried to piss on any and everything. Still I wished that dog no harm because his behavior and his hanging out at my house was your fault, not his. He was a mean dog. A rancher probably shot that dog he just happened to die near my driveway. But it's your fault that dog is dead!" Then of course they called me the b word before getting back in their car and driving off. I didn't care. Idiots.
I really think I'm turning into a grumpy old lady :D

But what you said is right, BW. The owner is at fault when a dog is a total pain in the arse, especially when they allow the pain in the arse dog to run free through the neighborhood.

People like that in our neighborhood too. This area has heavy traffic day and night n' these two dogs are regularly coming by to visit. It's a good eight blocks and many streets to cross. A bully and mountain dog, when we see them we leash them and take them home. But all the citations and fines, they still don't contain these poor pups.

The "problem neighbors" across the street have a pitbull. He's a very friendly boy and isn't a problem most of the time. However, they'll all (the amount of people living over there can vary from 5-12) go away for the evening and leave him on the screen porch, which doesn't have a latch on it. He pushes the door open and gets out to wander. When he wanders back, he can't open the door, of course, and get onto the porch. So he sits and barks....and when I say "barks" I mean "BARKS" (he sounds like a fog horn). He barked for 50 minutes the other night until I went over, let him in and put a cement block in front of the door. The police won't do anything about it; the neighborhood association people won't do anything about it.

Seems like "problem" dogs are worldwide.

I have them in Australia.

I have two "yappers" who live next door.

I can't even open my back door without setting them off.

No-one can come to my house without them yapping.

The neighbours never seem to hear them - never take them inside, or try to quiet them.

They tend to drive me insane at times.

There was one house I had a problem with. Male fixed Mastiff, BIG boy, allowed on his open front porch. Sophie is dog aggressive and this house was off of the main street. He would come running at her to say hello and I was scared what she might do. I talked to animal control, when we still had our own officer. A few weeks later that house had installed a high door on that front porch, safer for everyone concerned.

We had a situation like that too and it is awful! Their backyard where the dog door opened onto, was under our bedroom (weird side by side culdesacs) and he's sit out there and back because they were out a lot. They never responded to any of our polite notes at their door (like I said, they were out frequently) but I think I got a copy of the local noise bylaws finally and included it with a note to inform them that next there'd be a formal complaint.....and then the problem ended.

I dunno Bob, you might want to give it a try. But make sure you understand the return policy exactly before you order. I might question it working. Where we live it's time of day. Early morning before people go to work and between 4-6 pm when they get home. Dogs in yards and they all go off including ours. After 10am and after 7pm neighborhood barking ceases.

Manatee, love the campground sign!!

Ignorant, irresponsible, uncaring pet owners rankle me more than anything else in this life :grrr:

Looks like I'm not the only one here irked by irresponsible pet owners ;)
I found out from the neighbor lady this morning that it was the people on the other side of them that shot that dog. They did it because he dug under their fence and killed one of their goats. When their dog tried to protect the goats he tore their dog up. The guy came out and shot it as it was running off. People out here don't play around when a dog kills livestock or maims them. That was a big big dog & it was mean. It killed the feral tomcat that was living in my shed. I'd seen it bully other friendly dogs that were just walking down the road. I watched it bullying this one poor little dog that had already gone into submission very quickly, but that wasn't good enough for him he was terrorizing the little thing. That's when I went to the gate and threw potatoes at him so the little dog could get away. There are no leash laws or animal control out here. This is the country and a lot of people out here leave their dogs running free. The problem is sometimes pets will pack up with feral dogs at night & go on hunts killing things. Some people make mistakes with their pets out of ignorance, sometimes it's neglect pure and simple. Sometimes they learn the hard way. Out here my chihuahua is a snack. I do not let her outside without being with me on a short leash. When the neighbors next door on my right moved in they have 2 friendly pittbulls and 1 chihuahua. I told them " You should put that chihuahua on a leash there are a lot of hawks out here." She said " His buddy's ( the pitts) will protect him. A couple of months later she told me they were all sitting out there eating BBQ and a hawk swooped down and snatched up that chihuahua right in front of everyone. The chihuahua was really lucky because the hawk dropped it before it flew too high for some reason. She says that chihuahua hates all birds now.
