Digital, aka Virtual, Colonoscopy

Virtual colonoscopy is a special X-ray examination of the colon using low dose computed tomography (CT). It is a less invasive procedure than a conventional colonoscopy. A radiologist reviews the images from the virtual colonoscopy to look for polyps on the inside of the colon that can sometimes turn into colon cancer.

Heard this term discussed on a podcast and the variation of costs.

I suppose the prep would be the same.

A quick research of this said that it wasn’t used if you have a history of polys or Crohns, etc

I doubt the hospitals in our region will have it.
 

Many years ago (probably in the 1990’s) I attended a kind of motivational talk by a futurist who predicted that someday colonoscopies would be conducted by having patients swallow a miniaturized camera that would then pass through you, snapping pictures as it went. This would be less invasive, but the prep would presumably still be the same…and the “camera colonoscopy“ never got here…
